do you post on PT?

(i'm krishna on there too)

for those not in the know, pt (phantasy tour) is a website that has fantasy baseball type games for phish and other bands where you build a fantasy team of songs and their places in setlists throughout a tour (last i checked, cheese, bisco, yonder mountain, panic, dead, etc). they also have really lofi forums that generally tend to be filled with raunchy sarcastic motherfuckers.

in german goa festivals you have undercover policemen. but they are only after the drug dealers. i actually had the pleasure of talking to one. they said there are not after joe avarage for smoking a joint or taking some amfetamines, like what you are talking about. But for polish and hungarian dealers. he said he was happy to be here because he loved the music. Saw him also going haywire on the dancefloor late at night. depends where you are.  but yea im talking east germany here.

Usually a typical LE incognito might be a guy in his 30's and well-fit portraying a "raver kid" that has a full grown beard or mustache.  Be observational of your own surroundings and keep your tents zipped and out of the public eye.  Also another good tip is to avoid leaving your gear laying around or much of any of your personal belongings that you are carrying from out of sight or reach.

also, look for new (often white) tennis shoes. leos are expecting to have to chase people, and tend to dress for it far more than your average tourrat in barefeet or sandals.

I've heard of long haired undercovers in berks busting people before.

Also follow your gut.  Keep it locked down, stay with good people and groups.  Each place is different, and will have different threats.  Get wise to it and keep an open eye.

One fest a couple back had the local police as security, they also had a huge assortment of high tek ultramodern surveillance systems.  Came out of the bushes lookin like swat in the middle of the night pickin out the lone little sheep to far from the flock.  Even the people by the stages were being looked at by men in black with night vision goggles hiding crouched in the shadows.  It was so weird when the lights went out.  During the day they drove around in fast golf carts staring people down, running around like they hated everyone damn near almost hitting people.  Never wanted to check that out again.  The people were great and so fun though, besides the "security" it was an awesome time for damn near everyone as far as I could tell.

Always make sure your cars paperwork is all in order/up to date and the lights and everything work. Check points pop up from time to time never know exactly when or where but they do happen.  You should see what piles of contra they lift from everyone. I saw mason jars full of herb and bags of stuff and lots of booze they probably got of minors.  Be smart don't get caught with ur pants down.

oh of course. i'm not saying every cop out there is going to be noticeable, but general things like don't sell drugs to middle-aged men in brand new tie-dies wearing clean white tennis shoes is just good common-sense.

unfortunately, a lot of areas will let kids out on parole early if they work as narcs at a show/festival. i know this happens at summercamp every year.

Sucks you had this experience at a festival mate. :frown: Never had anything like it and I've done a lot of festivals. In europe though. Mostly electronic music festivals, don't know if you have that in america?

haha, yeah we have electronic music festivals in the states, though i've never been to any of them.

don't get the wrong impression from reading this thread. 99.9% of festival experiences are nothing but grand (beyond dealing with heat, too much booze in the morning, etc). if you haven't been, and you like live music, go. to a local festival, to a huge festival, to something in-between. you will enjoy yourself.

the idea behind this thread was just to tell people who might be new to this kind of thing to just keep a head on their shoulders.

I have really enjoyed this thread.  Like many have said, most of the time everything goes fine at a festival, but there are exceptions.

Nitrous does seem to be bringing a whole new element to things.  I avoid that shit, even though it is a fun experience occasionally.  Many of my friends do not and often wonder where in the hell that extra 50 or 100 went the evening before.

Seriously though, this group will throw down and usually do not travel alone.  I saw a huge brawl break out last summer at a show.  These dudes set up shop right next to some folks who didn't enjoy having the traffic and attention a tank brings right next to their site. It was a 10 person fight in a matter of minutes.

Nitrous has always been on the scene, man. It's nothing new. The one gripe that I have with the nitrous people is that they never redistribute the wealth back into the scene, at all. I was in Athens a few weeks ago and saw this cat blowing tanks all night and at the end of the night he tries to bum a cigarette off me. I said, "Dude, you have like 5 grand in your pocket and you want to bum a freaking cigarette?! It'll be a dollar a cig." I ended up giving him a cigarette and the next night Krishna and I got to attend their gas party for the price of 3 PBRs. That night was retarded.

I hear ya on how the nitrous peeps don't really support the scene.  They make theirs and bounce, while every vendor in the area looks at all the money they could have possibly made being passed around in a balloon then being chucked on the ground.  Not saying all the people with nitrous, cuz I met many a cool cats with back packs, but the ones that just come to hustle tanks and bounce.

What ever happened to buses with some sort of stealth tank octopus rig.  Come on in and laugh a while.
