Possible botched first attempt

I had a nightmare of a first attempt at some 1/2 pint pf style jars,i fear i may lose them all.I had a torch type cigarette lighter to sterilize the needle and the damn thing cracked and all the butane came out at my second jar with 12 to go.I kept going anyway and just used alcohol for the needle at that point for the other 12 jars.And the worst part was how much liquid it took me to inoculate the jars,i kept getting the needle plugged and used way too much.It took me 2 syringes for 14 1/2 pint jars!

Do you think i have any chance at success here?Oh well i still have 2 syringes left to try again,at least now i know where to do things differently now.I just hope i get a few jars out of this!

Yeh...you still have a chance at sucsess:grin:

As long as the substrate didnt get to saturated from the inoculation...which it ussually doesnt..then youll be fine.

Ive talked to someone who injected 1cc per hole..making 4cc per jar and he had sucsess.:goodluck::mushroom2:

It sounds like you worked pretty clean with alcohol on the needle and all. I would say your chances are good.

Plus you used a ton of spores, that can't hurt.

You really weren't too specific about anything in your procedure so I cannot guarantee anything. If you followed everything then you should be fine. Nothing to do now but wait :shrug:

I did everything right except for the things i mentioned.I Pc'd the jars,used a glove box and lysoled the shit out of the whole room for an hour prior to inoculation.I have the holes covered with tin foil now but i just bought some micropore tape to put on tonight.

One more question,i had a bunch of verm/brf mixture left over so i just put it in a freezer bag in the freezer is it good?I would obviously pc it in the jars before use.

There is no need to re-tape your holes if you have the dry layer of verm. protecting the substrate is what its for!

I did the same thing until someone on here saw my taped holes and told me to take the tape off ^_^

why no lysol? that doesnt make sense.I always use lysol or oust depending on what i am doing.

Oust has a strong petroleum backbone, not to mention toxic Triethylene Glycol which are not inert and can be toxic in high concentrations. Lysol is also an explosively flammable substance, especially when introduced in a closed environment (ie. still-air glovebox). Lysol might work, but compared to rubbing alcohol, antibacterial soap, and/or bleach, I think the cons outweigh the pros. Lysol has also been known to cause mutations in reference to fruit shape and size.

That's the first time i heard that about lysol being bad,i am going to get some rye grain today though.I still have 2 syringes to mess with so i am going to try some casing.

:hotidea:Fire is cool and all providing you are not the one on fire:hotidea:

I have 3 spray mister bottles

#1 Bleach solution(10-12%)

#2 Rubbing alcohol

#3 Water

Thats all the spray you need in this hobby providing you use still air
