Do they grow here?

Ok I live in tennessee. Theres alot of cow and horse pastures. I went hunting once but i saw no mushies. Do cubensis mushrooms grow in tennessee? How hard would it be to (or how many printswould it take to) overgrow tennessee with cubes? Do they exist in tenn? Thanks alot for any and all replys. I would geuss that they would be out after a good rain at about 80 degrees.

Yes, you would definetly find some Psilocybe caerulipes in Tennessee, they are also named "Blue-foot Psilocybes." This is a woodloving mushroom, and grows on wood chips, or decaying wood, usually in forests.

Info from "Magic Mushroom Field Guide."

Description: Brownish, knobbed cap, fading to yellow, with brown gills; whitish stem: bluish at base; on decayed wood.
Cap: 3/8" - 1 3/8" (1-3.5 cm) wide; conical to convex with incurved margin, becoming flat or broadly knobbed; sticky, becoming dry, smooth; watery-cinnamon to yellowish; bruising greenish or bluish, sometimes slowly.
Gills: attached, close to crowded, narrow; brownish to rust-cinnamon.
Stem: 1 1/4" - 2 3/8" (3-6 cm) long, 1/16" - 1/8" (1.5-3 mm) thick, enlarging to base; whitish, staining greenish-blue.
Veil: partial veil evanescent.
Spores: 7-10 X 4-5.5 microns, (but 10-12 X 5.7 microns from 2-spored basidia); elliptical, smooth, with pore at tip. Spore print dark purple-brown.
Edibility: Hallucinogenic.
Season: August-October.
Habitat: Single or in small clusters, on deciduous wood and wood mulch, especially birch and maple.
Range: Maine to North Carolina, west to Michigan.
Comments: Often overlooked or ignored as just another LBM, little brown mushroom, this hallucinogenic species turns blue on handling, usually after several minutes.

You just posted a whole lot of misinformation.

Here is your quote from above:
"This is a dung growing mushroom, and one of the three strains of psilocybes that is most commonly found in N. America."

If you read the description you posted you would see that this is a wood loving mushroom and does not grow in manure as you said in your quote.

And the three most common usa species are P. cubensis, P. semilanceata and Panaeolus subbalteatus followed by Copelandia cyanescens, Psilocybe stuntzii, P. cyanecens, etc., and other species of which there are more than 20 in North America (USA).

How could you quote the above and then paste in the description which is the complete opposite.

ANd P. caerulipes is a very rare mushroom which happens to have a broad east coast diestibution form Florida to Quebec, yet the largest fruiting ever was found in Ohio in July of 2000.

No. Cubensis do not grow in Tennessee. I don't know what you mean by "overgrow" but it would be damn near impossible to get them growing in cow pastures if thats what you mean.

HI Mr. Mushroom,
I noticed that your location is in Greece. If so where did you see them. And it is not loggers who ruin shromms but the clearcuts are what creat mulch to grow these shrooms. C. caerulipes grows on woodchips and bark, more abundant in man made environments and rare inthe wild.

If it was in wooded areas then it grows from the muclhof the woodchips and bark not from leaves. Maybe yunder the leaves. So again I asked where in what state did yousee these growing by the thousands. They do not even grow like that inman made environments, just small clusters and patches.

Hi, as for the locations of those images I posted, they too are from Ohio.

Regarding a new species. If you are not in school and do not have a grasop of the Latin language, nameing a shroom is hardly possible. If you have it done by others, you name would be added on to the mushroom.

Therefore you can suggest a name for a species and then hope that the mycologists studing it do not name it for a chracateristic of the mushroom specimens usec to identify it or taxonomically name it.

I can email you an addrss of someone who would do the taxonomy and your name would be on the end of the shroom just like mine is on Psilocybe samuiensis Guzma, Bandala and Allen.

Of course, Guzman first suggested the name Thailandia for the mushroom and Stijve of Nestles in Switzerland published that name in a paper as a new species from Thialnd befor eI named it Samuiensis.

ANyway let me know what you want to do with it and I cna help. You would bneed to provide a good generic description of the specimens along witht he shroom samples to be mail. That is if you want to try.
