Go flourescent! Inexpensive, low heat, and did I mention inexpensive with low heat? Perfect for any grower. What I usually go on is light until pinning, and then after that just a few hours a day (About 2-4). Closet setup sounds great PanTrop good luck with it! peace. ------------------ noisecode noisecode@fnmail.com

I too will be converting my closet into a grow room.....I will have a total of 5 humidity tents 2 measuring 22"w X 74"l X 22"h and one will be 22"w X 70"l X 22"hI will also have 2 25"w X 36"l X 22"h in the room as well. My closet is kinda set up already just need to add some lights(flourecents) and build a rack to hold the humidity tents in the lower part of my closet but I will in total have over 40 square feet of grow space sorry I cant help with the actual question but this I dont know the answers to your question, I read your post and wanted to share my set up (future) with you ------------------ "To all the weed I've smoked......yo this blunts for you" "To all the people I've offended.....Yea, FUCK YOU TOO! ~Quote from Eminem~ ~PanTrop~ [This message has been edited by PanTrop (edited January 04, 2000).]

Am I to understand that regular old light bulbs are not sufficient for lighting? I just moved my set up into the closet and I'm not coming out. Thanks

i think that all variables in lighting dont really matter. if theres enof light to see and its not like a UV blacklight or anything, just normal flourescent or incandescent or what have u, then it will be fine...they just need to know which way is up, and i dont think timing matteres really, but 12/12 is good :P------------------ Lady finger, dipped in moonlight writing "What for?" across the morning sky sunlight splatters, dawn with ansewer darkness shrugs and bids the day goodbye

flourescent light has very very low amounts of UV and UVA compaired to the actuall sun. It does however have the right spectrum for absorbtion by plants although flourescents made for UV and UVA are peticularly more exspensive. I have the for my lizard because it gives him vitamin E. how much light do mushrooms actually need?------------------ "some folks say that smokin herb is a crime, if they catch us smokin they bound to drop the dime, insufferable informer fools, wait with thier fingers crossed for you to brake the rules, And when we try to jam, we like the music loud in this here band, we let the bass line drop as loud as we can stand, sumbody's always gotta turn informer for the man, but im in the mood, are you ready?"sublime "get ready"

It's my understanding that mushrooms don't really NEED light, they are fungi afterall. The only thing that light (of any kind I would assume), does is give the shrooms a direction in which to grow. Dung loving mushrooms will grow on the underside and inside of the dung where there isn't exactly alot of light. I have to assume that the light is merely to keep the growing patterns uniform and to discourage your pins from growing down into the bottom of your grow chamber and thereby stunting their growth. I would have to say that any light would be good.Ish

All the light does is point a direction for the shrooms to grow, and helps initiate pinning. I don't think you have to go out and spend 35 bucks on the highest wattage flor. light... shrooms aren't weed.. they just need a little nudge in the right direction.vivid

Light is needed for a couple things which were already mentioned above (to initiate pinning and grow direction). According to some studies as little as 1MS (1 millisecond) of light is enough to initiate a pinning response. Light frequency isn't too important, however do note that mushrooms DO respond more to light in the blue spectrum (can't remember the exact frequency).Stamets recommends a 12/12 cycle, I have found that as little as 2 hours is sufficient. I usually turn the light on when I get home and turn it off before I go to bed (approx 4-6 hours). Hope that helps.

Ishmael : Our friend the Psilocybes are phototropic mushrooms and they grow towards the light. So in order to make them tall & beautiful you'll need light.------------------ //Moomin666 -When madness is an art...
