Suggestions on artificial lighting or what?
    #455723 - 11/12/01 04:59 AM (22 years, 5 months ago)

I just started cultivating mushrooms about three and a half months ago following the MMGG technique and have been working with Puerto Ricans from sporeworks.com but have been having trouble trying to get these bastards to pin. I have plenty of extra "fluffy white myc." (about a circumferance of 8-9 inches spanning out on the perilite beneath the cake and extra growth on the cake) but no pinning. I keep my terrium around 90-93% in humidity, 72-79 in temp., and am using a florescent Sylvania "GRO-LUX" light approximately 12 hours a day. I have been trying to get my cake to pin for about 4 weeks now, but have not seen ANY results yet. My only drawn conclusion is that the light I am using is not sufficent. The light I am using radiates mainly in the blue and red spectra peaking in the 435th and 550th nanometers respectively. I have read that mushrooms mainly take in blue light, so I am not sure why these Puertos are not pinning. If its a light problem, can someone suggest a specific brand that would be better? If not please give me advice on what you think I am doing wrong. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED becuase I am about ready to toss them out the window! Thanks a lot.

Peace

Bballer

Air exchange, lots of air exchange. And you might try cold shocking them.

Lights a moot point.
