If the growth seems to be lighter and fluffier than the other mycelium and not really attached to any "thick" mycelium then chances are it is the dreaded cobweb mold. Ryche Hawk has discovered a great tek for dealing with cobweb mold. I'm not sure of the exact url but you can find it somewhere through his webpage www.thehawkseye.com . Good luck with this! I wasn't so lucky with my last casing. Peace.

in the original pf tek it says it's not uncommon to see whispy mycelium in the upper verm layer. i noticed a bit of this in my jars. my guess is that's what you're seeing here. just scrape the verm layer away and you'll prolly be fine, whatever it was. no sense in throwing it away.

When you see cobweb mold in the top verm layer, its usual pretty obvious, as it tends to build thick matts of webs so to speak. Seeing cottony mycelium in the top verm layer is pretty common, and seeing rhizo growth up there is pretty common with some aggresive strains. If you have some doubts, just give it a light spraing of h202 on those spots, since your going to be scraping it out later anyway.
