Could you ever regret being a member of the Shroomery?

What if one of your kids stumbles upon a thread where your picture is in it? What if you are running for public office and your opponent finds out you used to post here and he then goes public with it? etc..etc..

I could see many circumstances where being a member here could come back to bite you in the ass.

If I run for office, and someone figures out "hey, that guy is Rooster Cogburn from the Shroomery", I'd be proud...

You could regret it for some of the of the socially unacceptable parts (otd this means you)... any opposition towards you can use scat picks and goetse against you but :rolleyes:

Then all you need to do is really talk about the community its purpose as a forum for education and blah blah blah endless appeals to intellectualism and problem solved. However, depending just what it is i think that all the scat and goetse might look worse and unfavorable to you then an appeal to intellectual betterment can fix in a favorable regard.

Kids really shouldn't be searching where your searching or looking at sites meant for adults, so the problem would be your kids searching for it to begin with and that seems more of an issue with bad parenting, or lack of preventative measures (net nanny and the like).

You realize you couldn't just explain something like this away. While it may not be a big deal to you, having someone find out your a member of this community could be a devastating blow in some instances, especially running for public office.

Oh, and are you implying that my parents, along with pretty much every other guys', were bad parents because they didn't stop me from watching porn before I was 18? Think before you post.

No, porn is one thing, allowing someone into the otd is something entirely different. It really depends on the mentality of a kid and the nature of the material, the more mature they are, the more mature things they should be able to handle.

You can expliain it however you desire, it really depends on what exactly their calling you out on. I can develop multiple arguments on the basis for each sub forum... i don't see the issue your having.

My family knows I have sex, but I'm not going to go tell my grandparents about all my conquests.

If it was publicly exposed that I was a member here I would have some regret because the embarrassment my family would go through. I'm not worried too much.

I'd throw some bible quote about jesus and who he hung out with. I can still be a saint in their eyes no matter where or who I associate with. It's just a tougher sale.

I didn't assume anything. Sometimes there are just some things that you can't stop your kids from doing. If I had kids and they were say 14 or 16 then I wouldn't have any stupid site blockers on my computer. I probably wouldn't want them in OTD, but if they stumbled in there somehow I wouldn't be devastated.

Maybe you, personally, could come up with explanations for all the forums on this board, but I was talking about if someone were running for public office or something of that nature. It would be very difficult to live this place down in the eye of the public.

Not really, it depends on how you represent yourself, you could even spin it into a new social program of informing the public... You could spin it into a need and a desire to communicate effectively with those that have directly been in a drug situation, how it impacts the individual, and blah blah blah... you could spin it multiple ways its all about your platform.

You all are too self-absorbed and need to get off your soapboxes. No one will ever give a shit if you were talking to people in this forum or not. I tell you this much, if any of you end up running for mayor and this keeps you from achieving that goal, I will bite my own foot off. I will need proof though.

Drug use is socially unacceptable. That's the fact of the matter.

To the good Dr.: I'm not saying this would be reason to to pursue goals, but if it did become known there is a potential for a problem. Maybe it wouldn't be, but it would highly depend on how well you handle it.
