This is a thread about your life savings, how you keep them and what your future plans are with it. For privacy reasons I've turned the exact details of it into an anonymous poll, so feel free to be as unspecific as you feel comfortable with.

Im $65,000 in debt.....

im thinking that with that, i should get enough bills from creditors to burn at night and keep me warm, perhaps make a paper mache house of some sort, lol...

LOL, actually I thought and hoped so. Still once you're in the game again it would be cool to put something aside to fall back on, instead of using all you have for your investments.

going well, there was a 5 oz nugget found around the area i claimed the other day, im going to drop about 2k on a good detector and dry washer and go out to the field and start working in about a week :smile:

Wow thats $3.500 in gold value, but the right guy would pay $10K since its a nugget.

I was just thinking about ways to do it. It sucks to not have water, water makes it a lot more convenient to separate it out.

The idea that came to mind first is a conveyor belt fitted with a metal detector to quickly sift through the soil looking for pieces of an interesting size. If you can, aim for the trade in raw nuggets instead of the goldmarket, goodlooking nuggets go high over spot.

It would be so cool if you found a fortune in gold and see you posting a pic of a nugget the size of a bowling ball :smile2:

yeah, im calling the local govt agency that governs the public land in about an hour to see if i can bring water in.

as it stands i can use what is called a 'dry washer' it uses vibration, gravity, and static electricity to seperate gold from sand and gravel wituout water.

I don't make enough money to save, really. I'll save money when I need to make a major purchase, and since I just did make a major purchase I'm flat broke.

That new motherboard and dual-core processor are going to be really great, though. Now I just need an X1950 Pro and 2 gigs of Corsair DDR2 RAM (800mhz, of course)... which will be paid for in full by selling a spare motherboard and an old pearl ring, with the income from that being combined with my next paycheck (although I get paid in cash... but you get the idea).

After that my only remaining major purchase is an expensive computer case, after which my money will just be dumped in a bank account to be saved up for a car.

That's the kind of attitude that had me trapped selling various illegal substances for a while.

However I figure it'll eventually transfer into something useful in my more legitimate business ventures.

I'd be hard-pressed to resell computer components for a profit, especially since I bought some of them OEM and I can't compete with the great deals out there on OEM parts.

Also: you sound like someone who has a hard time imagining what it's like not to have the kind of capital needed to do something like that.

I take that approach to drugs... since I've invested enough capital into them that I can subsidize my meager drug intake by means of my sales intake... but I specialize in rare substances that I have an absolute monopoly on in the region. If I didn't have a strangle-hold on the market and the privilege of dictating high prices, I couldn't afford that either.

while what i am talking about can be applied to drugs, its not what i meant.

as for not being able to imagine what its like not having that capital... that isnt the case at all

i spent well over 3 years being self employed doing just that... hell i boght 30 pizzas every day for 3.50 and sold them for $5

same thing with glass blowing, and buying and selling cars..

start small and work your way up, money isnt the deciding factor, its the ability to think creatively

I have some savings I'm using to look into several investments to increase my personal wealth. I'm planning on buying some property in an area that is expected to double in the next 5 years. That's just the property value.

In my free time, I'm putting together a plan in hopes of becoming a developer. I'm pretty confident in the way things are looking.

I've always had a "slow and steady" approach to financial matters. I don't usually engage in any type of specific project or "get rich quick scheme/plan".

I'm sure it seems boring to most, but I have continousuly increased my income through career advancement and steady investment. Not overly exciting, but I'm not in any type of debt, have a decent portfolio and I'm at the stage of my career where I will (hopefully) make some rather large strides in income.

I've been living paycheck to paycheck 6 years and I see no sign of it letting up.

I'm not concerned about saving because I'm young and stupid :smirk:

I'm trying to save for my trip to Australia and it's not going good.

I'm HORRIBLE at saving.  money burns a hole in my pocket.
