awww, lets nto forget the por africans and the italians. not really a big turning point, but was certainly worth remeberence.
may also nto want to forget that the brits, or english or whatever one wants to call them, were basically the nazis of the time back in the day. lots of these euro countries (britain, france, portugal, italy etc) had their fair share of ruthless bloodshed.
We all have a little sourness in our history. Nazi Germant was bad, but i consider what appened with natives here (& especially australia), africans and the slave thing just as bad as hitler just not as big. sure that war may have had the most casualties, but there have been far far more sicker and grusome wars.

Marching millions of jews into death camps to be mutilated, tortured, gassed, and starved to death. All the while slaughtering the rest of Europe. This is just the Germans. WW2 was the worst time in human history ,period. Never has there been such large scale suffering.
I'm not downplaying other times and horrific events. Mankind has a brutal history. We all have blood on our hands. In the 70's millions of Cambodians died. Look at Africa now. Lots of other instances to numerous to mention.
Hell look at what the good ole US of A did to the Native Americans.

I agree with your statement that mankind has a brutal history. Relater to this, there is one thing we should all remember. The Allies did not enter WW2 because of the Nazi persecution of Jewish people. At this time in history, persecution of various peoples in most if not all of the Allied countries was rife. (eg, African and Native Americans in the US, Aborigines in Australia, Maoris in New Zealand.)
If you study closely the reasons for any war, they are usually said to have been fought in the name of humanity, but the reality is one or some nations' interest.
Eg. Iraq. Was it to liberate the Iraqis, or make the US safer?

Correct.
We did not even realy know about how bad the treatment of the Jewish people were until we started invading and finding death camps.
Stoping Hitlers aggression was enough justification.
It must have been fairly obvious that the motherfucker was a lunitic.
I'm kind of suprised we didn't enter the war sooner.

My dad fought with the Resistance in Italy and a few of my uncles were Italian POW's held by the Germans. They have never wanted to talk about their experiences. I think that says alot

One day I was in Chicago( early 90's during tour). It has a large population of Polish Jews. I was sitting down by the lake talking to a very sweet old Jewish lady. She told me that she moved their after WW2. I said it must have been rough over there.
I'll never forget the look in her eyes. She didn't utter a word, but the look in her eyes sent a chill down my spine that still resonates to this day.
I can only imagine what those eyes have seen.

my grandfather served in WW2, he also doesnt talk about it.
He was career military, sow hen it does get brought up, its stories well after he wasnt in the mix of things. Stories of bases in allied lands, girls, etc...

To be honest,even though my kids went to Catholic schools, they are so tired of hearing about the holocaust. They know the Jews weren't the only ones to have suffered...They feel that here in NY it's a bit one sided
