Birthday cake taking unusually long time to rise

It has been a month since initial innoc. and the culture is taking its sweet time to fill up the jar. One is a Colu. strain and the other is an Eq. and Colu. I am getting anxious but want to proceed with care. Does this sound unusual? One jar is almost completely full and the other has three big patches on the side. Where should I proceed to from here?

The word on EQ's are that they are slow to colonize. I only know this by what I have read here, as I am trying to decide on which kind to purchase for my research. It also seems apparent, from these posts, that much depends on individual experience which I believe my be determined by the exact setup of the incubator and such. You may want to detail exactly what system (PK Tek, Myco bags, other) used, substrate, incubator type, temperature settings, vendor, date these spores were shipped, and whether they were syringes or prints when you received them. On this board there are FAQ's that have a great deal of info as well (they now have it formatted to remain on top and it is real easy to use, very nice!) Around these parts, if you ask a general question without much detail, you aren't likely to get much feedback because, believe it or not, the same questions (exactly the same) get asked all the time. It's OK though, we all have to get acquainted with how things work, with shrooms as well as this board. Good luck, I hear this strain is worth the effort so let me know how things turn out!

i myself have had difficulty with eq's taking a long time to colonize. i had a dozen jars that took over 5 weeks. one problem i found was that there was too much moisture inside the jars. soon as i removed the tape over the holes they finished up in a little over a week. try that. also i increased the temp inside the incubator to 83-85 degrees. this also helped. if all fails maybe someone else gain give you better advice, i myself am still gettin my feet wet. good luck.

I don't see the need for profanity, seeing as many other people love growing EQ's. I have not had a problem with them yet, colonization usually averages 3-4 weeks for my jars. Sometimes really slow colonization times indicate too much or too little water. If you are sure the mixture was correct, then just wait. I have had jars take up to 6 weeks to finish colonizing, but still had absolutely no problems fruiting it. Also, I have heard that EQ's do better in casings, so you might try that instead of cakes.
