Inference via experience or logic

If one draws inferences through first hand experience and another the same through straight logic, is one or the other worthy of more or less admiration?

It can be argued that the person drawing from experience is having the information presented to them in some manner, while the person using logic instead demonstrates sheer intellect by reaching the same conclusion.

It can be argued that the person using logic "has not been there" but has only "looked from afar with telescopic vision."

It's a difficult argument for me to illustrate. Astronaut vs. astronomer comes to mind.

Personally, I'm more interested in making inferences through experience - but I respect each method equally and suspect I do both.

I admire logic and think it can can bring one very far in knowing.
I also think that there are things that one can't deduce simply through logic because experiences involve feelings, frustrations which could be predicted but I'm not so sure about the precision of this predictability since feelings are such unstable matters.

All in all, no matter how valuable are both logic and experience, I think that they increase each other's value when used together.

As far as for admiration, I guess it depends on the circumstance.
On the example you gave with the astronaut and the astronomer, for example, I would have to say that I admire the courage, determination, passion of the astronaut, and in the same time I'm aware that he has to use his logics too.
I also admire the astronomer for his precision & intelligence.

I always think:

You can read every book in the world about riding a bike, and watch every instructional video about riding a bike, but until you actually RIDE A BIKE, you simply don't know how. :shrug:

Im kind of trying to cut back on the amount of logic I use everyday. Maybe thats apparent, idk :lol:.

It kind of feels like a trap sometimes. Obviously, neither are completely escapeable though.

But to answer your original question, i think most endevors cant be learned from straight logic. Try to learn any art/craft just by reading.

And on the other hand anytime your just going with it and experiencing life, you cant really stop using logic either. It would be kind of like building without any building material, or more literally, modern art :tongue:.
