Generation Handicapped

So I keep comming across articles about how our generation is narcisistic and unrealistic. Has anyone listened to mainstream music of our generation? Its a sissy-mid-twenties-skinny-pretty-boy singing about his pathetic feelings. Remember when music was about something other than the person who wrote it? I dont like the radio or the music channels, but John Mayer is the only pop artist ive seen write a song about something other than himself/herself.

I just hate how everyone seems to embrace the most worthless aspects of people with no character. Alot of out peers have fallen into that, and "reality" shows where the entire segment is a ditzy bombshell rambling about what SHE thinks about something thats not even important. Did we ever see people in "reality" shows struggle for anything? No we saw people live on an island for all of a month (big fucking deal?) and eat bugs and pig vaginas to win cash.

Like a good looking girl can do the most uninteresting things - Anna Nicole and death, and people pay attention to it. Yet people who can read, write, and talk fluently (things im sure she struggled with) are getting shot to peices at the same moment. Wounder why were unrealistic.

I dunno, I think this rant has turned into a talk about lack of substance. Well, I felt like ranting. I guess be thankful we still have a freedome based internet, the final frontier to be commercialized and exploited, as a place for us to go to get choices of information, from millions of sources.

Sure, the mainstream culture is pretty much vapid and worthless.

But I think, like you say, that the internet is a meeting place for thousands of little sub-cliques and cultures to develop their own ways of doing things; their own customs and ideas.

Like we do here.

Everyone? Not really. If you let what you see on TV define what "everyone" wants, I can see how you think everyone is retarded.

The explosion of mass media in our generation (assuming you are in your twenties like most users here) is why there is so much lame music and TV these days. Because it is so profitable, pop culture is filled with unoriginal, unexciting shit. This is here to stay, like it or not.

Don't waste your time hating all that... like you said, with today's internet, we are able to experience and learn about more and more interesting and non-mainstream ideas and art. Focus on that stuff, and Anna Nicole Smith's popularity might not matter to you as much.

but dont let anyone know youre enjoying yourself too much or else the corporation will grab your hobby and tip it upside down until it's pockets are totally empty. just look at the fast and the furious.
it sucks when the underground goes mainstream and gets watered down and marketed by idiots to idiots, but it happens. And with its death comes more change.
