Are You Handicap?

Two weeks ago i sprained my wrist, fractured my elbow, bruised a rib, and hurt my other wrist pretty bad in a roller skating tragedy
my accident was an extremely sobering moment
it totally changed my life
everything from buttoning my pants to wiping my butt has become a huge challenge
everything is so much more difficult/painful
i feel so sorry for true handicap people who have to live with it their whole lives
i definitely took my easy life for granted before my fall
i try to think about the positives of my accident
like how much more grateful i am that i didnt get more seriously hurt and how i will eventually heal
but it really really scared me away from sports
seeing someone roller skate or even bike ride gives me the willies
its crazy how fast u can go from having the time of ur life gliding down a pollished wooden floor
and then the next second u are airborne and then in excruciating pain
after the incident my life has slowed down dramatically
i pretty much put my life on hold
its been terrible but i cant let it affect me like that i need to take a stand
its insanely hard tho when all u can think about is what u want to do and how ur incapable
i guess i just need to be more cautious when doing something dangerous
even tho my accident was unavoidable
at least when im better ill be more grateful for being an able bodied person

so sad... I know handicapped people that seem to be more capable than you.
at 33 I broke an ankle jumping the 20 foot span of a creek, I still had to
hike my ass back to the truck and drive to the hospital for xrays, 4 weeks
later I was caving, that's right, rock climbing on slick muddy rocks in
pitch black with falls 30-80 feet onto the jagged rocks below. I havent
been on roller skates since I was 12 but have taken my kids skating a few
times in the last couple of years, I even took a spill to avoid running
over a kid, just a few days ago I wiped out on my bike and do you know
what I'm going to do now... fix it and ride the trails again

I have a neighbor with a steel plate in her head, she was thrown from a
horse, she's still riding her horses regularly
quit whining and put those skates on and show the floor who the boss is

I have permanent nerve damage from my right knee getting progressively worse toward the foot.

They told me I'd probably never walk again. Was on crutches for half a year, hobbled for another, and now am perfectly able to run from police.

Still have different sensation though, and a bit of a swagger.
