I used it a couple of times with potato broth and yeast extract, haven't noticed any major difference compared to dextrose.

Man I misread this, and thought you were talking about LC! What a dummy I am:blush:

Anyway, since I searched it down I'll post this link but ti's for Agar's trial with turbinado sugar in LC

Probably work in agar too...ask Agar:grin:

Some people say that sucrose inhibits mycelium and let to senescence.

A friend of mine had nice results with simple sugar cane LC, i've tryed to use it simply with the agar and it works but mycelium grew VERY slow, i don't know if was a direct factor linked to the sugar cane, or for the old mycelium but, imho, use just sugar for agar or lc stress too much the mycelium!!

 This is good. I've been using fructose as an additive and I don't use enough of it for the unused fructose to stay powder, it clumps.

Jeremy, great link,:) I missed this thread. I was just thinking of sugar as a supplement, if it works as the main ingredient in agar, it would be a big time saver for me.

Shroomsynergy, was the sugar added to PDY agar?

Fabio, what mushroom were you growing that grew slowly?

Hi falcon  i'm glad you're trialing with fructose for agar media as main nutrients, it's in my future plans because it's available in italian supermarkets. Keep me updated throught PM, i'm really interested we can unite our experiences. I believe you shouldn't add more the 5% of it in the media, like LCs, and it should works better because in nature fructose is commonly available for the mycelium.

I was growing P.nameko, but i specify, the original wedge was too old and stressed: here a thread using that strain, i can't remember specifically if the previous or the next was sugarcane based.

i was thinking...fructose is a simply sugar, generically i nature, mushrooms metabolize carbohydrates and complex sugars into simply sugar..in this way doesn't the mycelium become "spoilt"?and will have problems metabolizing the future substrate?
