I saw that show.
He was semi delirious halfway through the expedition/film.
He ended up cutting his way through very thick vegetation and then

that sounds like a winner, any idea what it was called?

man vs. wild is a pretty cool show, but after you see it a few times all the info gets really redundant with exception of a couple interesting tidbits of insight.

come to think of it I haven't seen it in about 4 months when I stopped paying for tv.  nova on pbs, now that's an excellent program :thumbup:

Survivorman and Man vs. Wild are both really awsome shows :thumbup:

Survivorman:
Pros:
- Carries his own camera gear, so it's only the Canadian guy there (no one to help him)
- Stays for 7 days
- Gives more practical advice

Cons:
- Has to carry his own camera gear, which means A> his movement is limited, B> the camerawork is pretty stale, which sucks because it's fuckin nature, so the camera work should be awsome
- He doesn't eat raw fish by breaking their spines with his teeth
- His name isn't Bear

Man vs. Wild
Pros:
- This guys is always doing extreme shit, like climbing up and down waterfalls, jumping off 70ft rock cliffs, standing on active volcanoes
- His name is Bear
- He thinks he's really a Bear
- His camera crew gets much better footage than Survivorman

Cons:
- He only stays a few days
- He has a camera crew, so he's not alone (you don't see what goes on behind the scenes)
- His clothes dry really quickly (wtf?)

They both need to film some new episodes though!

Also, I just bought a pair of these shoes: Merrell Chameleon II Stretch and was watching the Moab Desert episode of Man vs. Wild, and Bear Grylls was wearing the same exact shoe (different color scheme).  I was like "Sweet if this badass motherfucker approves of this shoe, it must be a badass motehrfuckin shoe"... and turns out, they are. :stoned:

Survivorman is much more realistic, though. If I get lost or stranded do you think I'm gonna be jumping off 70 foot rock cliffs or monkeying up and down a waterfall?

When I saw his show it was like he was just trying to do the most extreme shit. Like going through an avalanche and finding a dead animal, then eating the maggots right out of it's flesh.

You're exactly right.  Survivorman avoids those extreme situations, while Bear seeks them out.  For instance in one episode, Bear spots some quicksand and says "This is quicksand, you don't want to get trapped in it."  Then 5 seconds later, "I'm gonna jump in it and show you how to get out."  :laugh:

i loved the commercials before it aired. the guys voice was classic.

"his names bear. he got blackmailed. now he survives. climbed mt everest."

he didnt seem to talk in complete sentences to me.

great show though. i love everything on discovery except for the motorcycle shows and those things.

I hate how he always talks like he just got done running up a flight of stairs.
Such a spaz, and he over-hypes everything. Like "HEY LOOK AT ME"...
It is an entertaining program to some extent. But anyone who knows anything about survivalism will be put off by his showmanship and the general lack of realism.

But Bear has a film crew with him on most occasions, survivor man is left in those remote locations alone, and required to do everything twice b/c he has to walk back and get his cameras. Who's more hardcore? Think about it.

Valid point, although Survivorman's whole day is spent finding food and a place to sleep, then he goes to bed. He's a guaranteed stoner. You know he takes mad nugz with him on these trips. He just gets stoned, eats whatever vegitation he can find and goes to sleep. Sometimes he'll play harmonica too when he's feeling creative. Otherwise he naps.
