I didn't say MTV pissed me off, I said that it was so fake and lame that it was like watching a trainwreck. I feel this way in any state of conciousness, I just had a lot deeper insight into it all this time.  Way to really read my post captain. :smirk:

haha i was at nick warren and he played that and over it he was going "mtv is fucking whore" and like a thousand people started throwing stuff in the air and cheering

the last wathcable show they had was The Osbornes, and that was actually funny. but the rest of it is garbage. its the same shit over and over with a different name.

i hope our generation blows its head our of its ass, i dont wanna sink with this ship.. as a bisexual i can defintly say that theres a difference between gays and straight up faggots and mtv is turning everyone into faggots!!

what kills me is they run these granola hippy commercials for national concerve evergy day during an episode of my super sweet 16 which is nothing but glorifying the excessively rich and wasteful.

anyone remember when MT2 was supposed to ONLY run videos while MTV played crappy shows? LOL now neither of them rarely show videos... and if they do it's some countdown or TRL and the videos are interrupted by stupid soriety girls "uhm, yeah, I wanna dedicate 'lips of an angel' to my boyfriend, like he has lips of an angel, ww0000000!'


GOD i hate that song. and fucking straight girls LOVE it, and I'm like 'do you realize the dude is totally being a dog and telling his ex he still wants her?' i don't think they're listening to the words, all they hear is the phrase 'lips pf an angel' and think it's the sweetest love written ever.

I gave up reading all of the posts, it seems to be a general consensus. Didn't you all ever stop and thinking completely disregarding what other people enjoy as ENTERTAINMENT to be pretty closed-minded. And it seems like we are all some dudes and sisters who want to be open-minded people. And what's so wrong with the music these people put out. Let's try rap. Rap is clearly more for the beats, and listening, then the meaning. Is that wrong? That's what music REALLY is. Don't try and refute me, because the REAL roots are classical. Hell, even African tribes drumming do it for a beat to dance to. So really, people trying to add meaning to music is a downfall. I mean, I like my meaningful lyrics, but I also like me some Akon at a party. Another thing, the people that actually go ONTO MTV are a very small minority of people. I go to college, and a pretty fucking big one at that. I get a good sense of this "society of kids these days" that you all talk of, because the college life is where MTV is really aimed, for the most part. These people are not the same for the most part. They might have similarities, but they are all individual, free thinking, BRIGHT, young people. I used to think I was the shit, free thinker, smart, individual, into my "spirtual side" more than most my age. I listen to different music for the most part. I got here, and I realize I'm not really any different than most of my school mates. I'm gonna end this rant, semi in the middle, by just saying: WHY is it that all of this is so bad. After all, most of your/our parents were college partiers as well, but I'm assuming most turned out to be the normal people that live in this place we call Earth.

and im sorry to burst your bubble but there are HIGH SCHOOL kids watching this shit. kids. not college folk. and kids are developing and being shaped by their environment. you say people can like what they want but at the end of the day...would you want kids to watch mtv?

I never said that high school kids don't watch it. But the main focus here is college students. Shit, kind in elementary school watch porn, but that sure isn't porns targeted audience. And yes, you could make a meaningful song with a good beat, but that's kind of a waste depending on your aim, because people aren't going to pay attention to the meaning. That kind of music is what we call underground rap music. I really don't see why what people are doing in rap gets people so mad, it's a business folks.

I can't bear the sight of MTV. It irritates me just like any other overly commercial hyped crap, and I try to avoid it. Only thing is then you notice that this kind of hyped crap is everywhere, and you walk out of the hardware store because you can't think due to the loud commercial crap that is playing through the place.

But still I agree with jewunit, I will not base my opinion of people on the fact that they like this. To each his own.

I HATE the shows like Date My Mom, or Parental Control. They are so fucking obviously staged and scripted. MTV used to be tolerable (I have never had the channel though) when they atleast showed music-related things MOST the time, but now its just full of gay shows where people get emotional and have drama between eachother.

There is a huge difference between underground hip-hop/rap and the crap they play on MTV. That's straight up soulless shit packaged in sugar & sex to make ridiculous amounts of money. REAL hip-hop & rap, on the other hand, the stuff you'll never hear/see on MTV is fucking sick. People telling it like it is, not rapping about pimps, ho's, cars and diamonds. Not people singing sappy-ass love songs. In general, the music in the mainstream these days fucking blows. No soul whatsoever. Shit makes me wonder if they ever even HEARD OF Motown, Frank Sinatra, etc, etc.....

This translates to many genres of music. Country for instance; I talk to kids that listen to country-pop, ask them if they ever heard of Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, etc......and the way they look at me you'd think I just sprouted wings and flew a figure 8 around them.

As far as influencing the youth goes, I see that ALL the time sad to say. Young middle-class white boys trying to be gangsta, stealing anything & everything they can get their hands on, breaking into houses, jumping each other, swaggering around small rural towns with illegal handguns tucked into their waistbands. The list goes on & on......They have no respect whatsoever.

This shit really gets under my skin because it throws fuel on the fires of censorship. Which is the last thing we need in these times of oppression.


Basically the culture MTV represents & sells is sickening, the epitome of whats wrong in the US these days. We're calling it out, if you want to call that "sitting on a high-horse" then by all means, go for it. I call it being authentic, and trying to turn this train around before it goes over the cliff.

Everything on MTV is pre-packaged shit that is made with one soul purpose. To MAKE CASH. They have found a way to spend as little money as possible and receive a very hefty amount.

This is a known fact and I don't see the point in bitching about it. You cant blame them for finding a way to make shit tons of money off the retarded culture of kids these days. A lot of kids are dumb as shit, and although we like to we were not dumb when we were young, really think about it.

Think back to "The Ed Sulaman Show", where the highlight of the evening would be something along the lines of the singing black man. The people back then would also clap in a zombie like state for shitty entertainment.

The difference between the kids who watch MTV's shit and anyone pissed about MTV is the kids don't take this shit seriously, and if they do then I believe they are far to impressionable and would probably find themselves in trouble with or without MTV telling what to do, think, and wear. Possibly more trouble without MTV, because MTV just wants you to buy shit. However that guy in the mustang wants little Nancy to hook on the streets.
