Somebody would have started it if not MTV for sure.  Before MTV there were concert videos that had editing to add effects.  Certainly, even if MTV never existed, we would have music videos by now in the youtube era.

I just think they suck because they only focus on trendy crap and not real musicians and artists.  Its whole focus, ever since it began, has been on whiny teenagers and their popular music.  I would like more variety... lets see some ethnic music played in the traditional style, lets seem some bluegrass and folk, lets see some opera and classical. 

MTV is to music what the mall is to shopping.

I agree...I have never liked mtv. The internet makes their old constant music video playing obsolete anyways. Most of the music videos is played all day everyday were shit. I don't even know what shows it has now, I haven't watched that shit channel in so long.

I pretty much only watch Comedy Central and sometimes FX if Spin City or King of the Hill is on.

Yea, crediting MTV with the invention of music videos is like crediting radio stations with the invention of rock and roll.

I wasn't around in the 70's so I don't know they made the things right? we can all agree on that  so you tell me your older man.  I'm trying to figure that one out.  But yes MTV was the only place dedicated to that sort of thing

That is the point I have been trying to make.
MTV started the music video craze back in the 80's.

MTV was good back then, because it offered a form of music that wasn't offered before.

So, even though MTV sucks today....when it started, it was good.

Today MTV has absolutely NOTHING to do with music....so why call it MTV? It should be called teenie-bopper central, not MTV.

MTV sucks, even if they still played videos I wouldn't watch because I hate new music anyways. I don't even watch any TV for that matter.
