They only did music videos of modern pop stuff.  A good music television station would have concerts and videos from all sorts of genres and eras.  All MTV has ever done is popular trendy mallrat music.  Sure, some of it is good, but they neglect whole swaths of music and musicians and do music fans a disservice with such a narrow scope.

Pretty much, they were denying bands in the 80's that now they are begging for to be put on TV today.
