You can use hydrated lime but it breaks down a lot faster than regular lime. You should use it at 2/3 the volume of other limes because of this. I use it in my med-pot and put about a cup in 3 gallons of soil. This is way too much for mushrooms I think. I would be very careful. I bought a soil ph tester in the garden centre for $10cdn. If you can get it it is a wonderful toy. I would use hydrated lime at even less than the reduced amount recommended in the tek's.

I don't know why you are trying to adjust the PH of coir as it is neutral.

I am planning to case in coir in a couple of weeks so I am thinking now and washing my coir. I thought about adding nutrients to the coir but then changed my mind and decided to use the plain coir.
