Pan Cyan
    #612304 - 04/18/02 08:20 PM (23 years, 2 months ago)

A friend's pet tuna asked me the other day if I could help him figure something out. He was wondering if mixing up autoclavable spawn bags with dried cow dung, vermiculite and soaked straw to be inoculated with Pan. Cyans, and then after full colonization, casing each bag (in a pan) with a thin layer of coco coir? Since the dung is already in the substrate, it isn't necessary to put it in the casing layer, correct? Would coir give an optimal pinset? What would the desired thickness of the casing layer be, for a casing made with one spawn bag?

If there's anything else my friend's tuna should be aware of (it's his first attempt with this particular species), I'm sure he'd appreciate any tips!

Thanks for the help!

i am by no means any kind of expert, but i understand using dung with anything but some kind of spawn is aking for trouble.

Una's guide at this url: http://www.shroomery.com/findorgrowthem.php?View=docs&doc=130

is what is being worked with. With Pan Cyans dung must be used in order to get them to fruit.

Yes.

Optimal? Don?t know. But it works as a casing.

How big of a spawn bag?
The Pan. cyanescens generally require a thin casing layer from 1/4 to 1/2 inch depending on the depth of the substrate.
