I've used normal soil for plants (probably that it is the potting soil you mean). Actually I allways use this soil, also for other species.

do you use it straight from the outdoors? do you cook it first? this soil seems much heavier/denser than peat,coir etc... is heaviness a problem?

I buy it in some gardening shop. Normally it is a mixture of sand, humus & turf (I use the cheapest one). The turf gives it a good structure for a casing.

The mycellium grows into the casing, so more important than "heaviness" is a correct structure.

I humidify it just before saturation and put it into the microwave for 8 min at the highest power. Let it cool down and humidify it again just before saturation.

The above microwave cooking is a kind of pasteurization. You can store this soil for months in a tight sealing container and it won't contaminate.

The good thing about potting soil is that it already contains good microflora. This isn't the case when you mix your casing from components like vermiculite, peat, etc.
The pasteurization is good to kill larvae and molds.

I fruit for example the Psi. semperviva with potting soil, but also Psi. cubensis & Pan. cyan.
