Check out the most recent Night Wish album, it has a lot of music like that. If not them, just look up symphony music. One great piece is called Symphoni Fantastique

Thats not classical music, its more like film music...I dont know many film scores but John Williams is the best for "sweeping" scores.

Maybe look at the Kronos Quartet, they did stuff like Requiem For A Dream Soundtrack and they do a lot of cool crossover stuff, probably what you're after. They have a myspace page.... http://www.myspace.com/kronosquartet

Yeah, Berlioz Symphony Fantastique is a good one.
Here's some popular classical ones you'll find no bother... Shostakovich Symphonies (try no 5), Mahler symphonies, Tchaikovsky (4,5,6 excellent), Sibelius (2,5 excellent). All some of the finest art ever, well worth your download time/money.

Great thanks.. pretty much just what I was looking for.
Mahler, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius all wonderful stuff I already have.. just wanted to expand my horizons a bit.

Tchaikovsky at times sounds heavy and violent. It would be interesting to hear a metal band play Tchaikovsky.  :thumbup:

there was a tv show in when i was a kid called Dark Shadows. it was a soap opera about a vampire :laugh: . i have the instrumental sound track on vinyl which i think is exactly what you are looking for. see if you can find that somewhere.

There is a symphonic group called "Alarm Will Sound"... i think it is a 23 peice, but they tour by covering really crazy and complex music, but in a symphonic fashion. the last thing they did was Aphex Twin, that album is called Acoustica.

Check out Edgard Varese, Stravinsky, Ravel or other more modern composers
