"Dance" music is

From dance music, came rave-music (althought not totally a genre of it's own), which I liked pretty much only when I was on drugs. From that came trance and intiligent techno as well as many others that I liked. Now I like Psytrance, Intiligent, D&B, and some hard rock- particulary TOOL.

There are many other sub-genres of music I like, but that's primarily what I like.

There isn't really a certain kind of music I prefer... it's more about the artist. I could love a certain band, and then another group that plays a similar style I could hate.

like DnB, I love Photek and Source Direct, but I really don't like AK1200, and many others. I LOVE Tool, but I really don't listen to much else really hard stuff. I can't really think of anyone that plays like Tool tho...

I sort of have a favorite in my favorite genres:

Hard Rock - Tool
Classic Rock - Led Zeppelin
Big Beat Electronic - Chemical Brothers
IDM/downbeat - Boards of Canada
Ambient - Orb, or Sigur Ros (if this is where they'd go)
Emo - Jimmy Eat World (before newest album)
Hip Hop - The Roots
Jazz Fusion - Medeski Martin & Wood
Classical - Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven
Brit Rock - Coldplay
Industrial - NIN
Singer/Songwriter - Nick Drake
Other (with no real genre to fit in) - Ben Harper

Genres are culturally subjective so I'll just name some bands...

Shpongle, Infected Mushroom, Tool, Boards of Canada, Mogwai, John Frusciante, Rush, Philip Glass, Ravi Shankar, and Floyd are all artists that I love pretty much anything from.

I'm into a bunch of different stuff, but I'd say I listen to metal more than anything else.....Opeth, Lamb Of God,Meshuggah,Death, In Flames, The Dillinger Escape Plan(although they really aren't metal i guess) are some of my favorites.

Superjoint Ritual kicks ass too, if you like them you should check out Down(if you already haven't heard of them)

Metal head at heart here, but I've broadened my taste to suit my different moods and feelings I get during the course of living.
I'm not good with fitting bands into specific categories, so I'll just list the things that I listen to the most.

Tool
Cradle of Filth
Deftones
Mudvayne
NIN
Pink Floyd
Queens of the Stone Age
Slayer
Strapping Young Lad
Devin Townsend
Black Sabbath
Danzig
Fantomas
Fear Factory
Godspeed You Black Emperor!
Gorillaz
Shpongle
Shulman
Coil
Frontline Assembly
Gridlock
Velvet Acid Christ
Led Zeppelin
Machine Head
Marilyn Manson
Morbid Angel
Meshuggah
Opeth
Sepultura
White Zombie
Tomahawk
Mr Bungle
Metallica
A Perfect Circle
Korn
Coal Chamber
Chemical Brothers
Murderdolls
Rammstein
Pantera
Nirvana
Acid Mothers Temple
Soulfly
Smashing Pumpkins
Jimi Hendrix
Spineshank
Stone Temple Pilots
Dissection
Agalloch
Lamb of God
Death
Carcass
Children of Bodom
Nile
In Flames
Dog Fashion Disco
Deep Purple
At the Gates
Aphex Twin
Shalabi Effect
Sigur Ros
Mogwai

Shit, I could keep going. But I won't. That's just a rough idea of my music taste, and then some.

Some bands I haven't heard before that I've gotten into recently are Cult of Luna and Vision of Disorder. Fucking brilliant. Thanks to my friend for letting me lend the CDs

Oh, and yeah, Superjoint Ritual are good in my book. Haven't heard Soilent Green though.
