Question about jar lids and tape. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I used duct tape to cover the holes of my jars and then pressure cooked them (big mistake...I think). When i took the jars out, most jars had holes through the tape so i quickly put new pieces on there. Now i'm noticing some rust around the holes- under the duct tape (yes, they are brand new jars). My incubater was condensating on the inside of the lid and dripping a bit of water on to the jar lids (I'm using the aquarium heater submerged in sterilized water- underneath the jar rack method of incubation). I've corrected the condensation by putting some some vasiline on the inside of the styro-coolers lid. What i was wondering is:
1.) Is a bit of rust expected to form on the bare metal exposed from drilling holes in the lids?
2.) What is the best kind of tape out there to use? Masking?Hi-Temp Alum.?

1) Rust is normal, nothing to worry about
2) I use professional masking tape from walmart.
I think PF Tek reccomended it.
Were your lids tight? If so, that's what blew holes in
your  tape.
