What is point of loose jar lid in PC

Can someone clarify the following issues related to the recommendation to "loosen the jar lid " during pressure cooking.

1. I have read "one turn loose" - does that mean tighten normally, and then back off one turn, or does it mean only give it one turn altogether?

2. What is the benefit of the loose lid? I assumed it was to prevent the vacuum seal from forming, but I have read some posts that suggested the steam has to penetrate into the jar. However, this idea that the steam penetrates into the jar contents seems misguided to me. Isn't the steam merely providing the high temperature environment in the PC itself? Don't some people wrap the top of the jar in alluminum foil, and wouldn't that prevent steam from entering the jar altogether even if the lid is loose?

3. Why do some people recommend setting the jar lid rubber side up? What is the big value there?

one thing that i have seen in grow texs is the unnessary procedures that they have there. i have always put the rubber side down on my jar tops. i alway tighten my jars till their just snug. i dont crank them tight. i always use tin foil on my jars. why the heck use tape??? i have and its a pain in the ass peeling off the tape. why do they tell u to do these stupid things when they dont realy matter. rubber up rubber down what the hells the difference??? their r holes on top who cares if their is or isnt a good seal. i realy appreciate the help from some of these grow texs but they sometimes make me laugh....lol

I always leave open holes on my jars with the lids screwed on tight.

one turn loose, I would think that means just make a turn; it's not really specific. 1/4 turn should be sufficient if you are planning on loosening the jars.

loose lids can add more moisture to your substrate, so if the contents are a bit dry, loosen the lid. If they are already really wet, tighten it up. My friend just keeps them snug usually, because if you add the correct amount of water to the substrate in the first place, you want have to worry... The point of the tinfoil is to: a) keep water from splashing into your jars. b) act as a "contam-sheild' during the colonization process. Most people keep the tinfoil on during the entire colonization period, or they replace it with tape.

some people recommend the rubber side up because they think that if it's down, and you tighten the lid really hard, and then pc it, the lid will be extremely hard to get off... Just don't tighten the lids with all your might, and it won't matter which way the lid goes...

I think he was asking why to losen the lid while pressure cooking ..

I would think it is so that the expanding air inside the jar doesn't make the jar explode...

But I could be wrong

The reason for the inverted lid is to allow for some air exchange

the reason for the loose lid is also gas exchange it allows the heat to sterilize more thorouly

I highly doubt that backing the lid off 1/4 a turn will help sterilize the jar more thorough

Well it allows for more air(gas)exchange.
You should do a little reading and then post your side.
