No room for casing. Quick air exchange question...

Strain: GC Substrate: Rye Casing Layer: Top layer of vermiculite. No bottom layer. Colonization % of casing layer: 45% I have no room in any sort of rubbermaid container so I covered the top with saran wrap (to receive 12h natural light a day) but I am worried if I will have to bother to peel it back and fan it 2-3x a day or not? Thoughts?

Yes, you need to somehow get air exchange. Although pinning does rely on a small percentage of CO2, its the Fresh O2 that really triggers pinning grow. Its like nature in a way. Under ground the mycelia recieves a very limited supply of O2. And a large amount of CO2. When the mycelia reaches the surface it then recieves alot of oxygen and along with other factors starts pinning.:)bluhoney

Thanks. Thats what I thought. I'll continue to fan 2-3x per day like the rest of my chambers. There is only a inch or so clearance between the substrate and saran wrap so i'm hoping it will provide itself enough moister for pinning (95%) and I can just drop it down when I have it in a rubber maid container. With casings I usually fan and spray 2-3x a day in a rubbermaid when pinning and dont spray at all when the fruits are acutally growing. If the sides start looking too dry i'll spray 1x a day or something. Is this a good setup or should I improve (perlite etc. ?)

Actually for a few dollars more it could be alot better but just as simple. Find a small conatiner just big enough to put over your substrate. Now take the new containers lid and put about 1 inch of moist perlite on it. Now put the container with the mycelia in it on the perlite. Now put the bigger container(make sure its clear) over the smaller one. Now you have a terreriam (sp) and although it still needs air exchange each day, you'll find it alot better. Oh yea, make sure the larger container is deep, so when those monsters grow, they wont hit the top of the "biodome".:)bluhoney
