Another quick jar question.
    #699810 - 06/25/02 07:11 AM (22 years, 3 months ago)

Hey,
I got a quick jar question. I've got some jars in an incubation chamber and I was wondering how loose do the lids need to be for the mycilium to breath. I've got the lids on fairly loose at the moment and three days after innoculation one is showing some mycilium. Just wanted to make sure I was doing things right.

Everything sounds like it is going correctly. Be cautious though. You do not want the lids to be too loose. Do you have holes on the top of your lids with a verm layer or even a contamination guard? If so, you do not need to loosen the lid. The holes will provide enough air exchange in my opinion

Oh, I'm using the the jars for casing, not a cake tek, thus no holes in the lid. I've simply got the lids on with a double layer of foil wraped around them.

My friend, wheather you are going to case or use cakes, it will be best to have holes in the jars lid for air circulation.
