Business Opportunity? Or Bullshit?

I moved to a new house in November of 2005. I have been isolated for months without meeting new people, until Saturday I happened to cross someone that lives right behind my house. Jeremy is his name, he is 18, and we have allot in common. The first day he Begin to tell me about how he is going to be so wealthy that he will be able to retire at 21 or 22, obviously I was skeptical but I don't entirely believe or disbelieve people when they tell me things.
So here it is Wednesday and he invites me to a business meeting at 7pm... we go to a "days inn" (I believe that was the name of the hotel) and meet in a small room with 18-20 Charis
This presentation Begin just like all of those infomercials you see at 2am in the morning on TV. It was a dvd that Begin to tell the story of how a series of people have "changed their lives" with this new and exciting "business " and how they have so much free time yet great income.
This went on for literally 10 Min's or more just over and over people telling their story of success on the dvd. Then someone steps forward and begins telling us about how this company has just exploded in the last 14 years since its birth in 1993. How this company is nearly world wide (18 countries 3 continents) and how individuals can make plenty of money.
So I Began to think "Pyramid scheme" over and over inside my head and "This is commission based pay"
But as they continued to explain the program the more I believed them (I pray it was not brainwashing)
***** In a nutshell its like Von-age... they are a company that provides phone service, Internet, VoIP (voice over IP) , and soon wireless cell phone service. All of those services for cheaper than what your phone and internet provider can give you. ****** However the "business opportunity" is that you represent their company and you give the service they provide to the customers, essentially removing mass media advertising, tele-marketing, and mass mailing. Turning (YOU) into the salesperson *********Here is where it gets intriguing and more like a pyramid scheme. You get 2 people below you to spread the service and you not only get a bonus of $500 you also get a percentage of income based on the service that is sold. * * It gets better, then when those 2 under you have stepped up then you continue to get a higher pay and percentage of sold service.
So still at this point I'm thinking its still bull shit, but then they show another dvd Its DONALD TRUMP, Trump discusses how he chose to invest in this company due to its growth. Then the presenter showed us a success magazine and the company is on the cover, The four presidents are only 18-20 years old.
I'm starting to get convinced especially with the pay they are promising, but then at the end they lost me... entirely, the only way you can do this is to "officially start your business". Which means GIVE THEM $500???!!!! then you can start your home business in which you can get more people to join and build up below you which in turn pays yourself??
So you can understand that I'm throughly confused as to this being Bullshit or a real "business opportunity". Tell me what you think

Yeah known as 'networking marketing' eh.
I had the same experience and the worst bit is it was my step-ma so she had my dad in on it, talking to me, getting angry when i called it a pyramid scheme and believing his own bullshit.
The 'Network Marketing' Opportunity I have been offered is for health, body and mind products, a little less immediate investment but not a great difference in what they want you to pay.
Basically its up to you if you think you can make it work. I'm gonna give it a crack maybe as some of the benefits seem worthwhile, but i have a feeling its just a marketing infiltration into personal experience to try and help us lose our souls... They advise you to 'sell to friends etc' and has my step-ma talking in marketing jargon. I swear they are both too thick to realise how ridiculous they sound to take it so seriously and repeat what they have been told, like a satire in South Park the fucking sound like.
I'm gonna get a market stall to try to make a niche for these health things, different tack but you still get something from it, but the crush is that its commission based pyramiding, despite the protestations.
Its up to you dude, might end up a waste of money with you sitting on a load of hardware you dont need and cant sell.

its all about getting others under you(think Amway or Mary Kay)
will they pay you? do you know people that work there and have made $$?
I've seen people do VERY well in things like this but you have to be motivated and a good speaker/bullshitter in order to sell and get people under you doing the work.
shit when I was younger I sold knives door to door, I thought it was a scam at first but I worked hard at it and did a good presentation with a good product and after 3 months was making over $3k/month which wasnat bad almost 20 years ago
if you got $500 to spend(lose) and feel you can sell (VoIP is a hot product right now until the feds regulate it) go for it, the most you can lose is $500 right??

it can work , if you have ever heard of cut co knifes or vector marketing they do this same thing.
basically they allow anyone to become a personal salesman. it can work if youre wililng to do it, but they do put lots of restrictions on your activities as to not put out others in the market.. the other 18 people in that room.
its probably legit, but tough to get going. being a millionaire? probably not. dont quit your day job.

There are people there who have made money at this program. They guy who invited me to it is 18 and says he will be able to retire at 21, and offered to take me to dinner. They even continued to show success stories that sounded more believable than most you hear on TV late at night.
They told us one story of a guy that owned 13 quiz-nos buildings and joined this program and now he owns 3, so he had no financial reason to join this, he just wanted to make more money and have more free time.
So it does sound believable and possible.
And when you get the people below you on the program you gain a residual income biased on a % of the service they sold.
Residual is key because you get a paycheck month after month as long as the service is kept by the customers.
