I Have Quit Smoking Cigarettes!! **UPDATED**
    #5610808 - 05/09/06 10:40 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I took my last cigarette out onto my patio and smoked it with a Heineken in my left hand. I drank the beer and smoked the cigarette
as I looked out into the dark woods and listened to the rain fall through the trees. It was quite enjoyable. I flicked the butt as
far as I could and watched the glowing head shatter when it hit a tree. I audibly said "goodbye forever" to my old friends.

Having never lied on this bulletin board, I fully intend not to start now, so that further enhances my determination to succeed in
never smoking tobacco, ever again, for the rest of my (now longer than otherwise) life.

I will be content to draw on my Nicorette inhalers occasionally to fulfill my need for nicotine and my oral fixation which smoking has caused.

If necessary, I will buy patches to get my "nic fix" each day until I ween myself off of the nasty drug.

I hope I don't replace cigarettes with food. I'm very scared to gain weight because of this. I'm heavy enough!

I appreciate your time and your support, my friends.

Please forgive me if I become short-tempered or negligent in the coming days/weeks as I withdraw from that awful drug/habit.

Thank you for reading my pledge. Now that I've written it here, there's no excuse for me not to succeed. :peace:

EDIT:=================

7 days and going strong!!

Pure willpower.. No patches, no more inhaler.. Dropped that after 2 days. I'm over the worst of it.

YAY!!

its really not that hard if you really want to quit, but that is really the same with any addiction, i was a smoker for 5-6 years and quit cold turkey, it sucked for the first week, but wasn't too bad after. Now i can't even stand ciggs, they smell bad, taste bad, and are way harsh.

peace

edit: forgot to wish you luck, so good luck

You may do as you wish, but I don't understand how my pledge can help you. Please explain.

I have quit before, just never made it permanent. This time is different.

I too hate the smell of cigarettes after I quit. Can't stand smelling them. It's totally digusting. Grosses me out.

Basically that, and its nice to see someone pretty much lay it out infront of you and how they are determined to quit "the nasty drug"

Oh, I think I understand. Does this mean you are quitting as of now as well, or maybe sometime in the near future?

On a brighter note one of my uncles quit at age 43. (about 2 or 3 years ago now) He says he's never felt better. Actually I've had a lot of relatives that quit at an older age. What I'm trying to say is that if you don't have cancer I wouldn't worry about getting it if you quit. Although checkups are still good anyway.:thumbup:

On another note I've tried quitting myself but it's not happening anytime soon. Nicotine is my anti-anxiety measure.

Check-ups?

I haven't had a physical exam in over 17 years. I'm "healthy as a horse" as far as I know and I don't want to know any different.

Some day, maybe when something's bothering me, I'll go and get an exam, but for now, I'm far too content and I feel very well.

I'm only 46, so I have a very good chance of 90% or better recovery of lung damage over the next 20 years.
There is sure to be some permanent damage, but I'll definitely be far better off now.

Well, I may turn to weed or beer or benzos on the occasions that the lack of smoking doesn't cure my anxieties, as long as I'm not driving, but, I will not go back to cigarettes, I'm sure. I am determined.

Shroomism will be a little perturbed that he has to go outside to smoke from now on, but maybe he'll quit too.

My puppy will NOT be exposed to second-hand smoke (except weed when he grows up a bit, if he likes it).

I've tried the gum.. It doesn't do shit for me... The inhalers do very little too. The patches work best, but they cause extremely
vivid dreams if you wear them when you sleep. I mean WILDLY vivid dreams, which was nice a couple of times, but got very annoying.

I never really meant to quit, but I did. I've tried smoking twice in the past few months, and each time I couldn't get through more than 4 or so drags before I was completely disgusted with myself.

Yeah I tried the gum 2 years ago when I was trying to quit. Didn't do shit for me either dude, it was pretty much useless to say the least. Big waste of money. Never tried the inahlers or patches.

Good call bro.  I've met a couple stoner dogs in my lifetime. One (Misty) would actually sit there and give you her paw when you had the bowl in your hand begging for a hit. Very cool dog.

My dog Sydney (full blooded rott) has never liked any form of smoke, it tweaks her out. However she does like eating bud. (known to her as Matty's treats ) Discovered this years ago when I had a gram of bud in an empty pack of smokes that I stupidly dropped on the floor. Searched all over for it and finally found the pack ripped apart under the dining room table. hah. Ever since I'd toss her a small bud when I had an oz+ and could spare a bit. Been a long time since she's had any though.
