For me it was mostly the physical act of smoking. There's something about that repetitive motion that puts the mind at ease. Stare off, chill out, drag, inhale... ahhhh... I quit a little over a month ago purely for health reasons. I've never felt better. Sometimes I miss the social aspects of it. I think a lot of people begin to associate cigarettes with "chilling out" or "taking a break," and that definitely perpetuates the desire. But yeah, I don't think I'll ever miss the nicotine-- just the act.

I smoke because I'm addicted to nicotine, and beyond that I enjoy the sensation of breathing smoke and having something to occupy my hands, its a physical and mental addiction. I smoke american spirits though, and they are all natural tobacco.. no chemicals or additives. And with no chemicals they have to add more tobacco so there's about 25% more packed in. Thus they burn at least twice as long as most cigarettes - your average marlboro smoker can puff one down in 2 minutes, where these take about 10, even if you are dragging hard. Tobacco itself is much different than your average cigarette. The average cigarette has around 900 chemicals added to the tobacco, 25 of which are known cancer-causing carcinogens. They say it's to "add flavor and make it burn more evenly" but somehow, I disagree. With ammonium sulfide and ethyl alcohol and all that crap.. here's the list - http://www.blowingsmoke.arizona.edu/web%20articles/chemicals_cigs.htm anyway I used to think I wanted to quit smoking, but then I realized it was all the nasty horrible burning chemicals I needed to stop inhaling into my lungs, ande that I actually enjoy smoking pure tobacco. I switched to spirits and my throat stopped hurting - I thought I was coming down with throat cancer for a long time.. but I didnt care. My general health improved and after about two weeks of smoking those, I couldn't smoke a "regular" cigarette if you paid me. Smoke nothing but tobacco for a while, and then smoke a "regular" cigarette and tell me you can't taste all those nasty chemicals. I can.

Not me, after I finish a pack I say.. time to go to the store and get another one. But usually I get the other one before I finish my pack, that way, there's no interuption

i'm very lucky that i've never become addicted to cigs. i havent had 1 in about 2 weeks the only time i smoke is when i'm either drunk, rolling, shrooming, skiing or smoking herb. when i used to do acid i would smoke also. for some reason i just have to have a smoke at all times when i'm messed up. i will easily go through 2 packs in a night if i'm partying.
now when i'm sober, cigarettes disgust me. i don't like the feeling nicotine gives me when i'm sober

i like the act of smoking a cig. i dont smoke reefer so its just fun for me to blow smoke out i guess. plus i get the nicotine buzz. Ill buy a pack maybe once every couple months and just smoke whenever i feel like it as something to do when i have nothing going on. im goin to give those natural spirits a try i think, i always hate waking up with that nasty tobbacco taste in my dry mouth.

I smoke for a variety of reasons. First and foremost I'd have to say would be boredom. When I'm sittin around with nothing to do, I light up a cig, or if I'm in a social and can't think of anything to say, I pull out my pack. Second I'm addicted to the smoking, it makes me feel better. The simple act of lighting up and inhaling helps me chill out and relieve some stress (cigarettes are not my first pick of things to smoke, heh). Finally, cigarettes give me a brief relief from stress caused by my various other addictions.

my lady and i just quit..... were going on our 6th day. she's smoked for 10 yrs and ive smoked for seven. ive been using the patch and it works pretty good, it kind of gives you a choice.but there is still a fight. i feel 100% better......i actually feel like i can comprehend instructions alot better and my thoght process actually makes since. i think the reason is because the smoke blockes oxygen going to ur brain. there is no reason to be smoking it does nothing to you and everyone on this board knows it.Don't give the tobbacco company ur life. i added it up the other day i have smoked 51 ,000 ciggarettes and have spent over 7000 dollars and guess what i have? a fucked up lung and an empty pocket. sorry just really motivated to quit

I smoke for one reason and one reason only....I like it. Yes, I know the health risk involved. Yes, it will likely kill me in the end. Yes, I enjoy evey cigarette I smoke. No, I don't care what anybody else thinks about it.
Simple as that....

I've been doing that a lot lately...entertaining the thought of quitting for a very short time and then saying "fuck it" and buying a few more packs. Damn cigarettes.

ok, i smoked my 1st cigarette when i was like 11, did it then cuz i thought it was cool, and didnt even inhale. around 12 or 13 i decided i wanted to try inhaling, after a year of just keeping the smoke in my mouth. didnt even feel it honestly. became addicted right then and there. since then(4-5 yrs) i've gradually became a pack a day smoker. NOW i werk at MCI...hah! never quiting smoking, as long as i werk there. being a smoker is just something thats pretty much mandatory for a tellemarketer. i guess now its just a matter of me taking the cancer in exchange for the stress relief. dont get me wrong, i smoke cigarettes when im bored, after i eat, wake up, smoke(heh), just like the normal addicted person would. i guess the point is that i honestly believe, to quit, u have to want to, at this time, i dont...
