Trim clone leaves?
    #5570665 - 04/29/06 03:16 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Should i cut of the outer 35% of the leaf tips on clones, or not?

I've seen with and without, and would like some opinions.

Yes. It lowers transportation and improves success rate by doing so. I even go a little further then 35%.

Once you get the hang of it you can take em any size

Thank You Magash, U are the one I wanted the answer from anyway .

I want to be your apprentice!

growfaq.marijuana.com has been down for at least 3-4 Days, and I don't know where to turn :frown:

I only have one shot at getting these ladies going, I will trim the leaves.  I'm using RootTech cloning gel and Advanced Nutrients Jumpstart Cutting Accelerator. I also have B-cuzz Roxx (they are rockwool cubes)

When will they start to perk up?  A day or Two?  Any & all help/suggestions will be considered and is appreciated!

Cool I love the roottech gel.

He he he.....don't trip they may have started to bend around that is from the rootTech they will perk up in about 2 to 3 days. Resist the urge to try and help em perk up there's nothing you can do the first few days but before you know it it's easy as fuck and a pain in the ass just to check em.......

I  You Magash, Your the Shiz nizal bam snip snap zap!

I have 7 clones and I've been watching them all day, I didn't know exactly how long the branch had been off the mother,  AND it was my first time.  I had them in my possession for two hours and they had probably been cut at least an hour before that.

When I woke this morning 2 of them looked like they had started to orient there leaves to the light. and the others looked very droopy.  Well for the past 3 hours I've watched the others perk up, almost to the point of standing erect.

Thank you so much, if I had a sister, I would gladly hand her over!

whats the point in triming the leaves on clones?...the reason im asking is its about time to snip some clones around here. last year i didnt and only 2 of 8 clones took root.

This could be because you had the branch from the mother without water for so long.  A really interesting thing happens when you cut phloem (sugar transport vessels)  It starts to form this mucus plug in between each cell.  Of the plant is put in water though or begins to grow roots, the phloem cells will re form in new places, and start transporting through alternate routes.  This is why when you clone you should always do one at a time and leave the branch end in water, not exposed to air all the time.

As a rule, cuttings shouldn't have more than 3 pairs of leaves when taken. Apparently yellow leaves waste water and should be removed as they appear. I think you should wait until the leaves are 50% yellow before removing them.

I've had success with larger cuttings, but more seem to die.
