UPDATE on Namaste's salvia clones
    #3447268 - 12/04/04 09:34 PM (12 years, 2 days ago)

I just wanted to give everyone a lil update on the salvia clone I received from the very generous, Namaste, a few months back.

It's 13 inches tall, has 9 nodes, and is starting to develop internodal growth. I can't wait to top her to make my first clone.... Not just yet tho.. ( I already have a kickass home to send the first rooted clone to )

I built a makeshift greenehouse for the time being, but I want to get something decent with constant high humidity, in the near future.

How are all the other people's clones? I know some of you made threads here and there

Hope they're all thriving well!

:peace:

As of now, I manually mist my girl with a spray bottle everyday.

I built a frame that fits around the pot and wrapped it in plastic. I spray the walls of the greenhouse 2 times a day.

I have a simple CF Fl hanging over her.

The last I checked, 10 out of the 12 were doing well.  The two people who I assume didn't make it will get another one this spring, if they don't already have one.

I'll trying growing them for a month or two so there is a large root ball this time.

And any extras will be traded out in an essay contest :sun:

All that matters is that she survived Zep! She'll be thriving like crazy soon enough. It reaches a point where it grows like mad...

Here are two pics of my plant, which is about 16 inches tall (minus the pot). I need to get a better place for it, with the heater on my house is rather dry. The salvia is still growing, I just don't think it's as happy as it could be with more humidity and maybe more light.

Again, thank you very much Namaste! Good luck everyone, let's spread this plant around the world while we can, before it's scheduled. Peace and Love!!

Thanks, guys!
bmarley3434 - I live in Georgia, but have had my heater on lately, so the humidity can't be very high. The plant is on a dresser with a bunch of coleus and a couple orchids, with two CFL above the plants. Your plant will probably be fine on the windowsill, it may get brown tips and grow very slowly, but it will probably survive.
drgonz - No, I haven't topped it yet, in a week or two hopefully I will take two clones from each growing tip, leaving several nodes to branch out. As a plant lover and grower, I'm really enjoying Sally. Beautiful plant with tolerance and quick growth. Peace!!!

Hello,

I have a couple questions about growing salvia.

1. Can someone point me to the best vendor for purchasing a clone?

2. -EDIT- I answered the question myself, go go gadget search button. LOL.

Happy Holidays to all.

Peace

Hey ToolTroll, thanks for taking care of her. She's looking really good. I like how she branched out right away, keep us updated when you make slips.

Out of interest, how long did it take before you saw growth in the new plants? Had mine a few weeks and nothing yet. I know my himidity is only about 45%, so I guess it'll just take time for them to adapt.

In about 2 weeks I saw new growth. Just nuture her (misting, high humidity, etc) and you should be fine man.

One thing I'd like to point out with Sally. I believe that Namaste pointed out that these clones came from a low humidty environment, so they didn't necessarily have to be grown in high humdity. However, I'm learning that once you put 'em in high humidity they get very accustomed to it. My sally outgrew her first lil makeshift greenhouse, so last night I took it off with the intentions of constructing a new one today. Well this morning I got up and my sally (still under the CF) was drooping like crazy! So I ran out to the garage, and grabbed some materials and built a greenhouse 5x the size of her first one. 3 hours into the new greenhouse and she's looking back to normal! I just mist the walls and roof of the greenhouse twice a day. I built the top on a decline so excess water runs down. Can't wait to take my first clone, do you prefer a simple cloning in water method, or just go with rockwoal and a rooting hormone?

This is definitely a fun plant to grow. I hope some of my P. Viridis sprout soon. I planted 10 about 4 weeks ago, they're on top the fridge with a baggie over top to maintain moist soil, also have slits in the bag for ventilation...

:peace:

Salvia.D clones pretty easy, I like to use rockwool are some type of medium with cloneing solution. Although I know alot of other people like to use water.

Heres something from Neuro's FAQ
Quote:

When can a salvia plant be propagated?

You can propagate Salvia at any time.

When taking a cutting use a clean sharp blade to make a cutting of either the main stalk or a branch. Be sure to leave the plant intact enough to recover, e.g. leave some leaves.

Once the cutting is made, a good thing to do is to take the plant to a pot of room temp water and submerge the cut end of the cutting and once again cut off about ? inch off the bottom where the original cut was made to separate from the host. After this is transfer quickly as possible, and preferably without ever leaving the water at all – if not no big deal just move quick, to the container in which the cutting is to root.

Cool man. I do have olivia's gel, which is some pretty badass cloning gel. I think I'll do rockwoal, then when I have a bushy mommy, I'll experiment with water, aero-cloners, etc....
