birthing my cakes-please look and reply! * 1
    #535287 - 01/29/02 08:11 PM (21 years, 7 months ago)

is it ok to birth cakes into the same tererium if they are different strains...that would get a little expensive to make a whole new tererium for another strain....

another Q:i am gonna make a casing..i know the casing mix should be sterile..what about the perlite im gonna use on bottom layer? and i plan on birthing my cakes on perlite also....should i sterlize it? if so how? PC?

1 more Q:how many cakes you think you can fit into a terrium thats 33 inches long 15 wide and 17 tall? how close can they be together? i figured at least 30 cakes? is that too many or not enough?
thanks

Yes you can birth different strains together in the fruiting chamber as cakes.

If you make some casings......your probably going to have to make another fruiting chamber.....since the humidity will be different for casings than it is for cakes.

Don't use perilite in your casing....if that is what you meant.

No you don't need to sterilize the perilite in the bottom of your fruiting chamber.
I do use a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water for the perilite.
2" of perilite....and then coat the perilite with the solution of hydrogen peroxide and water.
I don't put my cakes on the perilite directly....I leave them on the lids.

Not sure how many cakes your gonna be able to stick in.... all at the same time.
You'll know after you put them in though....lolz
Just give them enough room so they can grow and not be too crowded.
You don't like being crammed into a Concert with thousands of people nut to butt do you ?
