Hydrogen Peroxide questions...

I have two questions
What if i mixed a little hydrogen peroxide into my syringes when i make them to increase sterility? Will it affect the spores?
Also what if i put a little hydrogen peroxide in with the water i use to make my ricecake jars, will that affect anything? Perhaps slow colonization or something?
Thanks alot

Sporechicks site suggests peroxide mixed with water in the mist spray for some reason but it also says plain water (NOT TAP) is just as good. I don't know about it affecting spores but peroxide doesn't seem to be all that bad a solution. I suggest checking sporechicks.com and read their tek/kits to see what they use it for.

h2o2 and spores: no no
h2o2 in cakes: decomposes at cooking, doesn?t harm/doesn?t do any good

do NOT mix hydrogen peroxide with spores, it will kill them dead... however, peroxide does not kill mycelia, which is good cause you can mix it in with water in colonizing jars to head off contams and for mycelia syringes....

YES PEROXIDE DOES KILL MYCELIUM if you did not grow the mycelium with peroxide if it is not dilluted enough it will kill the mycelium

as a matter of fact I injected my jars with straight h2o2 once because I didnt know that you had to dilute it first. It did seem to slow down the growth for a few days but after that it took off like a rocket and was soon fully colonized. I read somewhere that the mycellium has an enzyme that breaks down the h2o2 leaving you with just oxygen and water. And thats good because our fungus loves oxygen.
But its still best to dilute it first.

The enzyme is catalase. It causes the break down of h2o2. Most all living things produce H2O2 in every day metabolic processes and so they have to break it down with catalase because h2o2 is toxic to biological systems. Spores have no metabolism and most bacteria are too primative to produce catalase so h2o2 kills them. Mycelium produces catalase and breaks down the h2o2, but if there is more h2o2 than the mycelium can break down easily then it can cause significant damage to the mycelium. It will recover from this however. Mycelium has been known to also form a defense against h2o2 over time allowing large amounts of it to be used with little to no effect on the fungus.

The green stuff is a powerful catalase producer and is not harmed by H2O2, on the contrary, the added moisture makes it even worse.

If misting with diluted H202 can help prevent the spread of bacteria does it have any effect on the spread of cobweb mold? I would think if it would kill cobweb mold the mushroom mycelium would also be harmed. Thanks

so is my casing doomed with that little hint of geen stuff, or can H2O2 save me?!
