4oz jars?

Hey guys, first timer here. My jars are growing nicely.. (It's so exciting! I feel like a Father!) They are all between 10 and 50% glowing white... My question is, has anyone else ever tried using 4oz jars? Thats all I could find very easily so I just decided to try it. I have 15 jars, and I'm thinking I'll try and split them up. 7 regular PF (double ended casing maybe), 4 cased, and 3 or so in-vitro (give or take). Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! flint_

Thats a pretty small chunk of mycellium you'll be getting from a 4 oz jar. You'll find you will get bigger mushrooms from bigger chunks. I'd look for 1/2 pint jars if I were you!

But.... these jars are going to colonize in roughly half the time, or is my logic wrong on this one? So doing twice the number of jars for the amount of colonized cake you need for a casing would be a little more time effective? After I get some mushrooms, I'll make my own prints and syringes so I'm not worried about that. Also, if one jar gets contaminated, its only half the cake loss... What do you think guys?

The wide mouth half pints are available through homecanningsupply.com for $9.27 (12w/lids). I found some of these 4 ozers and and tried some of them too. I mixed up a few different combos of three sized jars:(4oz,8oz,16oz), three types of subst: (BRF, Rye flower, and quinoa), and three different strains from Ralph (B+, Plantasia Mystery Strain, & Mexican near Palenque). Right now(4 days in) 4oz PM/Rye out front. PM ahead in all subs. MP close behind. All B+ showing least growth.Rye- way out front. Quinoa- last place so far. It's still awful early. Results will be posted when the time comes. Thanks Ralph for some great looking cloudy syringes! Peace

I have used 4 oz jars, and they worked like a champ! Fast colonization - only lost one jar to contams. Those little bastards flushed their tiny little asses off too.
