1/4 pint, 4oz, Jars
    #546224 - 02/09/02 11:21 PM (23 years, 4 months ago)

Hey i was just curious if anyone knew if the speed that 1/4 pint jars would colonize at over say 1/2 pint is worth the lost in mass? These jars will be cased.

Thanks
The Jerk

My friend's bottle of skyy has been using quarter pints for a long time with great success. They colonize about a week to 10 days faster and when cased provide just as many shrooms The size and shape is perfect to set four of into a tin foil pan and case without having to break up - this will produce huge flushes. Use an electric blanket to incubate.

sounds like a good idea...my friends jars are taking FOREVER...actually prob not that long, but it seems like it. the longer they take the more he spends on buying new toys for them.

I seem to find that the bigger the chunk of mycellium, the bigger the mushrooms.

I used 1/4 pint jars for a while when i started out and i had great success. It seems there are no less mushrooms produced with 14 pint cakes than 1/2 if the conditions are right. And they do colonized much faster which can help prevent contam and retain moisture.
