Hey techies
    #5167853 -

Edit in- If you're just starting this, I already worked my way through what I wanted to get to. No need to add any new replies. Thank You.

I got to comparing people with ADD who need "speed" to help them focus and concentrate with internet connection lines.

It's funny to watch them bog down when they have to focus and some crash their "computer brains". It reminded me of the slow connections with the phone line.

I got to thinking, people with ADD need some high speed cables installed.

Whats the difference with how a high speed cable works versus the phone line regarding internet connections. I want to translate it into a meta physical understanding.

Thanks for any techy replies. Maybe I'll web search it too.

I'll give that one a run around gus- thanks. I guess I am looking for the techy version of an interface for one, so I can translate that.

The other thing that caught my attention was the difference between digital and analog. This bit doing some search said that we process information in analog, however, it said analog is convertable to digital with technology so why should it not be with our brain. I think that conversion  is up the evolutionary path for our brains. It's the transition from linear thinking to multi dimensional thinking

Again, I am looking for the meta physics behind it.

I may be off on that being the area that would relate to poor ability to concentrate and focus attention for sustained periods of time while keeping comprehension clear and brilliant.

Keep throwing stuff out guys if ya got it. Think in terms of technology and I'll translate. Other can posts meta physical tranlastions to if they are use to doing it.

I want to google fiber optics next. That digital analog stuff was related to sending info through copper cables.

It seems that analog thinking would give one better streamlined focus though. Could it be that people with ADD think more digitally then analogly or am off going off somewhere wrong here?

meta physicians can jump in with the techies too

more research..

On the neurological side of this comparison, you might want to check out Dr. Amen's site:

www.amenclinic.com

He has done work involving the SPECT scan of brain activity which reveals the irony behind ADHD: the harder those with this disorder TRY to concentrate, the more the effective activity in their brain DECREASES.

Whats the difference with how a high speed cable works versus the phone line regarding internet connections.

I'll be a little less specific than just internet connections. The difference between a fast and slow connection is caused by both the size and speed of the connection. Speed depends on the physical speed (ie: electrical vs. fiber-optic) of the line. Size (bandwidth) is how much information you can fit on the line at any given time.

56k modems, DSL, or cable all use the same underlying physical network - electric cables - so the physical speed remains basically the same. What separates high-speed internet from dial-up is the bandwidth of the line. More information can be sent with each "send this:" command than with dial-up modems, which makes the line faster.

The other thing that caught my attention was the difference between digital and analog.

Analog is continuous and digital is broken into pieces. Analog is a smooth wave with no breaks in it, but we cannot define the strength of the wave at any given point - because there aren't any given points

Digital is where you take the wave and define set points along it. Then you can say "at point x the value is y" and start to compute things about it. A digital signal is essentially a long string of the x,y values.

Just to add there are several pros and cons regarding analog vs digital. Digital is the "native" language between most electronic devices, therefore, in terms of communication, digital is faster and less prone to data loss between such devices. But if computers want to communicate with us, let's say, by sound, the most accurate and natural format is analog, not digital.

What Trendal refers as "the wave" explains the level of similarity, the digital wave tries to achieve, so it can mimic an analog wave. Relating to sound, the more accurate the digital wave, the higher the bitrate and the size of the data will be, and more natural it will sound. But pure digital communication is made only using 0 and 1 (CABLE/DSL), analog communication (dial-up modem) has to be modmulated/demodulated.

And I thank you again Veritas. I got pulled away for a while and thats where I realized I needed to look next. It's about my daughter who has what I would call "selective" attention deficit disorder. Only, it's like she is not selecting what she can whip through and comprehend at light speed or what will bog her down into a short circuit melt down-thats usually unrelative repetitive stuff.

Anyway, your link looks good. In the rare instance it happens with her, she bogs worse the more she tries to concentrate. It's

If she goes back to school, it may become an issue and I don't want to put her on speed. I'm wanting to understand whats going on in her mind, or like when she over complicates stuff at first all on her own:confused:

I was looking towards models to see the techy side of it and now I want to see what biologists have to say.

Thanks again veritas and tren and maia.

I'll wing it from here and if I think I find anything neat, I'll share. I know a lot of people at the shroomery deal with varying forms of ADD.

In the mean time, on the meta physical side, I think she needs more grounding work. On the biological side, I noticed when she eats protein, it makes a difference. Problem is she doesn't like meat except for chicken. It's hard to keep her protein levels up. A lot of protein drinks don't agree with her body.

Protein must be some sort of carrier for neural networking I am thinking.

My search is broad now and needs focus!

It's not that big a deal. Teachers she had before never noticed and neither has anyone else except for my husband and I. Thats a whole nother area to research. For all I know she is just acting as some sort of meta-physical mirror for my husband and I regarding something about ourselves we haven't paid attention to or noticed.

It may not make sense why I am looking at technology that mirrors the symptoms. I just like visual models for understanding.

I highly recommend reading Dr. Amen's book, "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life."  It has practical recommendations for dealing with problematic brain functions.  I seem to remember something about ADHD and protein, but it has been years since I read it, so I could be mis-remembering.

I used many of his recommendations to deal with a period of deep depression, and found them effective.

It looked like a good read packed with info. Ya know, since this post went up I have shifted through so many gears and cycled through so many approaches to this that my head is spinning now. I wanted to approach it form a holistic place all at once. Too much!

I forgot, iron is even better then protein. Thats another she doesn't get enough of because she doesn't like red meat. I noticed a difference when she was taken a supplement. It just dawned on me that she stopped taking them through all of the holiday business and travel. Thats probably why it got my attention again.

That's the physical aspect, I think I came to the behind the scenes insight I was looking for. I think there is some mirroring going on too regarding my attitude towards certain elements of formal education and the system at large.

I think I will see significant change in her when I start making changes in myself. The thing is, I don;t vocalize much with her, but a kid as hypersensitive as she is and as close as we are picks up a lot of the unspoken.

It's going to take a lot of work on my part to make a healthy attitude adjustment regarding "the system" I have to integrate her into to a certain extent. Either she is mirroring my attitude towards it or she is responding to aspects of it like she does because those aspects need to die off and the new kids are saying in their own way "this is BS" and I'm tuning out.

I had a billion thoughts run through my head today and I need to let the dust settle on it all. Thanks for your input Veritas. I needed to start this thread to help bust myself up so I could put it all back together again-in a better place.

It can wrap itself up now. My mind is already onto new things.

Realistically, I don't know how feasible it would be to transfer actual information from a brain (like the table is 3ft tall, brown, etc).  It would seem to be more probable to define certian emotions and detect these by noticing patterns in brain activity.  Who knows what the future holds though!

Keep up the thinking though, I like where you are going with this jiggy.  Are you thinking more along the lines of recieving information from a digial device TO the brain?  Or transmitting thoughts/emotions FROM the brain?
