My own Digital Reality
    #1437710 - 04/07/03 09:47 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

In a possable future......

There will be a Virtual Internet, where people are transported into 3D landscapes, with buildings to walk into and people to talk to from around the world (Everyone will have 3D Avatars).

In this world, commands can be said by a user to do certian functions in this digital world. Some would become addicted to this digital reality and live in it for hours, then days at a time while being fed intraveniously.....and eventually people will prolong their life with cybernetiks so that their body will not break down...organs can be switched out every 3 years........all but the brain.

A new reality emerges........the old one forgotten. New intelegences are copied from one to make a duplicate in order to explore a different path. These computer commands will be slowly forgotten, only to come back in the form of magic to those who remember them or discover them.

Eventually I hypothasize that some will want to live forever in this new reality and ways for preserving the brain will stop. The last option is to start a new reality without a brain........but inside a computer.

::::This reality might one day be so......but until that time it is somewhere far away, in...... the Twilight Zone:::

Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?

This is not as far off as you might think. There is already VRML, and online communities like There .

You'd like the book Otherland by Tad Williams, where there is a society just like that.

Some scientists are already experimenting in replaceing damaged hippacampus with a electronic implant I think it has something to do with memory. Gota get one of thoes so i can then learn Quantom mechanins, Chemistry, Pharmacology in a 30min upload instead of 10 years. Then eventually we could have neural implants to go online.

I like it! Create another world... A self sustaining electronic world where an instant lasts a life time and nobody knows the difference and breeds as usual. Kinda like that Simpsons episode, where Lisa cultivates a tiny universe.
Oh, wait a minute. The Matrix?
It'll happen. We're already pretty well adjusted to playing God. after all.

fuck that. Thats the worst thing since hanging yourself. I just have to ask why...Why? im screwed up enough as it is! i couldnt handle a fake world, where i could play fantasy all day. Screw das shite lol. Im not going to put some wire implants in my head either, i do admit it would be cool to learn so fast. But i think it could be learned a different way, without the use of wire technology. I dont see us really getting anywhere ff people just keep inventing ways to dillude themselves. Why not make a machine that knows how to beam images into your head in such a way that it triggers memory functions and allows you to improve on memory recall, and read faster or whatever. that sounds a little better, but not really. maybe if we were smart enough to build a machine like that we wouldnt need to build one at all, and we should probably be spending our time doing something else. we havent even been able to prove if there are psychic connections, if we knew that we wouldnt need to use anything else. we would have a wonderful poool of users at our fingertips.

i couldnt handle a fake world, where i could play fantasy all day.

It wouldn't be fake- it would have rules. I wouldn't have to be just like this reality at all, just as long as it had rules that worked.

We could sustain ourselves forever in a digital dimension......and when we get sick of it, maybe we could program another one (after realizing the one you are in isn't real).

Maybe it's just as real as this reality? Maybe as long as you think it's real, it is.

Hate to say it, but we are already living in a fake world, where people just keep inventing ways to dillude themselves.

That being said, I find nothing depressing about the prospect of this "fake" world becoming a reality. If that is the path that evolution is steering us, so be it. Not many people seem to realize that we already live in a world defined by the mind, not the material. The material is an aspect of the mind...

i like your prospect, the rules help and all. but i dont think i would like to be digitized forever, cause if something happens like ^ . you dont want yourself to be trapped in ones and zeros and be like "fuck, im about to crash". and i would rather it be not neural implants or anything like that, maybe when we die our conciousness could be released into "the light". heh i dont know, thats still iffy, i would have to try your machine out first  . . i think you make a good point as another tool... but i think we as humans need to seperate ourselves first from the dependance on "tools" and such. were going to have to get our hands dirty first, and then give them a damn good rinse!

to alobar -

I realize the fakness of the planet, and have realized it for a very long time. and that is a great reason for why i dont think we should propogate it by turning our fellow beings into sylicone. you see them in holly wood and those big breasted bitches that look like barbie, and those guys named kin with orange skin and who always smile. and like i said this world already gives me enough problems where there are no rules and people go everyday living without responsibility and just fuck everything up. i just dont want to push it over the edge where people no longer live and act, and where they are always "plugged in".

i like seeing the real sky everyday, and breathing the somewhat real air we have left. and seeing the real ocean.

i think its so much more amazing that we can think of all this and have all the capabilities that we do without the need for computers or anything like that. if we had great memory recall and we could "show" people what we wanted we might not have a need for computers at all.

if anyone hasnt read Brave New World i would reccomend it for a greater view on this. Then maybe fahrenheit 451. and then watch the matrix and johnny neumonic.

i do think it would be bad ass if we could record our dreams, then maybe we can really figure out what the hell is wrong with us. but that could as well lead to other bad news.
