Is it theoretically possible to get a near endless supply of mushrooms (disregarding contamination) by constantly adding more nutritious substrate between flushes? If not, why not? It seems redundant to keep starting the whole process from scratch.

Well im thinking of grabbing a chunk of old cake and sticking it in a new jar to grow, thus removing the syringe crap, slightly higher risk of contams but if your super careful and ultra strile about everything it saves you some bother.

this is why people use agar cultures. they keep petri dishes full of mycelia and when they want to make a jar, they slice a piece off and throw it in the jar. or you can make mycelium syringes. i recommend using the petri dishes and agar.

theory: Start of week A start agar. End of week C have done a few agar transfers End of week D first 12 quart jars are completely colonized case 8 jars, use 4 jars to do grain to grain trasfers End of week E those 8 jars are done. Case 4 jars, use 4 jars to start 8 more jars grain to grain. so an and so forth, though every once in a while you would to start from fresh spores onto fresh agar to new jars of rye.... peace, ar393 and i believe you meant nutrition to the substrate, and unless you are working in a super clean environtment (aka bio level 3 clean or so) you are going to get contams when adding uncolonized substrate in a non-clean environtment. peace, ar393

Was actually talking about something like a straw tek where one would add more manure or compost or straw to keep the fruiting cycle going.
