Substrate Purgatory
    #347635 - 06/23/01 09:40 PM (23 years, 7 months ago)

Hi, I an in a frusturating situation where I've yet to recieve the syringes I need for my project. I've just pressure canned the jars (1/2 pint and quart) with alien substrate, which looks good. They all have aluminium seals on them- waterproof. My question is can I leave my un-spored jars to chill in the closet for a month or so? It looks like I won't have time to harvest before I leave on a 3 week vacation. Or, the alternative is, should I inocculate them and leave them for a month? The plus is that I return to fully colonized jars. I don't know, however, if the mycelium can chill for a month without decomposing. The final option is to inocculate them, then before I leave, mix the mycelium jars with copious amounts of substrate in other quart jars, and spawn an army of shrooms that could potentially fataly overdose somebody! 40 quart jars of mycelium! But, the reason I ask all of you is because I am a young grasshopper. I don't want to contaminate my shrooms or violate their integrity. Thanks

you can realy do any of the things you mentioned. The collonized jars can last a month in the jars but if i were you i would innocualte and then expose to light while your away. You should come back to jars fill in inverto shrooms a la hippie. I've never done the hippie tec but it should like the best bet in your situation. I dont like collonizing quart jars from 1/2 pints. if your going for large quantity then unnoculate a bulk substrate like hay, straw, dung or my favorite worm castings.

What i want to know is why people keep doing this. .... ???????????????????? i can think of like 4 posts off hand that dealt with this problem. there's probably like 10 more in the archives.
