Bulk substrate shortcut and other stupid questions

The first thing I should probably say is that I love short cuts but I understand they are rarely as good as the original. Having said that? the microwave is such an intriguing shortcut tool!!!

AFOAF of mine is wondering if anyone has a microwave straw/compost tek or any thoughts on altering the oven straw/poo tek discussed in the Grow Log Forum. She is looking to sterilize instead of pasteurize. She is thinking about running a test in the PC to see if an oven bag can handle it (any ideas?)

The situation to date:
She has only one quart jar of fully colonized rye grain. All others have failed to show any signs of growth. The syringe supplier blames the mail system. She has at her disposal Alfalfa, Organic compost of unknown mixture, hydrated lime, verm, pertlite & all the other things that can usually be found in an African 3 toed Sloths apartment while they are trying to harvest fungus.

Poo is not an easy thing for a sloth to get at this time, so she is looking for another option. She has little room for error with this being the only jar at this time, so she has no problem taking the steps to prepare the substrate well. However she has read some horror stories about pasteurization and is leaning toward sterilizing the bulk substrate.

Questions:
Is there a good substrate using just Alfalfa and Compost?
Can an oven bag of substrate be nuked to sterilize?
Can an oven bag survive a pc at 15psi for an hour?

Any opinions or facts would be very much appreciated

use oven bags in the oven.

warning. they are very brittle ... never tried them in the PC, careful with that vent pipe and blastic!!!

i've never used alfalfa, but afoaf has used wheat straw, raffia grass, and timothy hay with great success. he usually does a mix of hay/compost/vermiculite at a 4/4/1 ratio. (by volume)

probably, but i'm not sure. However i KNOW a pillowcase can stand up to a pc.

really, why? afoaf says that pateurization hasn't failed him yet.
