THE END OF THE TEK DEBAT!
    #512435 - 01/06/02 07:06 PM (22 years, 2 months ago)

I have HAD it with so many teks. I have decided to perform a series of tests and find what exactly is the best (most efficiant..ie time to product ratio) tek. Probably ten of each tek to start. More with time and funding. I'm really serious about this and want to start a website, post charts and updates. Take independant data, polls etc. I will pic one strain and do tests, probably b+ or amazonian(my fav). Any better ideas for a strain to use?

Here is the list of teks i will test.

Brown rice cakes
casing : manure + substrate
casing : straw + substrate
casing : pete, oyster shell, + substrate
casing : coir + substrate
also the colinization time of various substrates (brf+verm, rye, millet, etc...) all in spawn bags.

I was tempted to get volunteers to do various types but that would add a random element of various sterility conditions, so i must do it all myself.

Plz help me finalize the list or if any are missing or reduntant. I would love to hear from u your personal testing experiance as well.

use pf classic. and try casing with jiffy mix. also, time/product isn't the only concern when choosing a tek. also cost of materials and risk of contamination.

Also, other things to consider are the amount of time it takes to complete the tek (as in "work" hours), ease to find the tools, materials... etc....

I would like to compare the straw tek (inoculated with blended up PF style conlized jars) as well.

yeah...i will collect all such data and make various charts like
-time,
-contam rate,
-price of materials,
even arbitrary things i notice like
-blueing,
-size and shape of fruit,
-spore production,
-number of aborts

...hmm. anything else?

Don't use BRF cakes, use DRF (Dark Rye Flour) cakes.

Trust me, it works a hell of a lot better. It will speed up your colonization time.

Peace

This may not be posible as it is too subjective, but you could try to evaluate potency.

Now everyone will tell you it should be the same. But I have to think that a mushroom that grows to 3" on BRF and 6" on straw will have a somewhat different chemical make-up due to nutrient variation.

You can subsitute dark rye flour with the BRF in the normal PF tek, correct?
