the nature of karma and its ties to liberty.
    #5058697 -

I would sayt to you who would listen....

Karma is a wonderful and beautiful thing, it is also a thing that is both gross terrible.

The simple fact that I can at any point in my life deicde to do something that is by the deifintions of karma, negative or positive, is the ultimate proof that karma has given me the best of all possible gifts. Karma has given me the ability to choose. I have reached a place so exulted that she bestowed upon me the most precious of all things. Freedom. I do not say life because to be a slave in death is still to be a slave.

So mighty a gift, a gift that not even karma knows, for who is karma to do what she wills. Is she not bound by the choices of others. To have so mighty a gift, I offer thanks.

If not by the freedoms I have, what then validates my choices. If not for the good that I have, what then validates my good. If not for the bad I have, what then makes me so bad.

Am I not the perfect reincarnation of a former me, I have the ultimate good, karma has deemed me worthy of choice!

woo ha, got you all in check!

karma doesn't exist, just the law of cause and effect.
or
The Law of relativity.

p yeace.

God: a supreme all-knowing force that controls all aspects of existence while giving free will to a certain animal called "man" and deals justice accordingly.

karma: a supreme omnipresent force which pervades all aspects of existence while giving "choice" to "man" yet deals justice accordingly.

Im going to remake this thread, using your exact words with the exception of changing the word "Karma" to "God" and see what people say....

I have posted this before, but it is very true to me:

Karma is baggage.
Good, bad, it matters not.
Baggage is baggage.

karma is not a force. karma is the result of your interactions and how they affect others on the mental/physical/spiritual, etc realms.

every action has an affect, if you cause harm, in the minds of those who were harmed by you are ill thoughts, pain.... suffering.

this suffering that you gave them then will come back to you, eventually, as we are all connected, as is everything intangible or otherwise connected.

more importantly if you deliberatley cause harm, you take that mind with you in your death, and its not a particularly healthy or liberated mind.... somewhere down the line it's going to get back at you.

in this light you can call karma a force, but........ karma is just a way to describe something that is already here....... but is beyond description.

nothing i said is really "true" but you just have to sit and reflect on cause and effect and come to your own conclusions. It's just wrapping words around a form that is completely empty. You can explain it a thousand different ways and be entirely right.... if you explain from a place of understanding. But you can look at all these words stuck around this circle in front of you, and you think "oh this must be a circle" but when you unravel all the dogma from it, there's not a thing there at all.

I'm not a good metaphor writer but hopefully that is interesting to someone. It's a formless thing, it's given form by men, but to take someone else's words literally on it is to most certainly fail to understand the truth behind it. It's something to reflect upon, not read about and go "okay, karma means literal reincarnation, if i kill someone i will be killed by someone." maybe.... maybe not. You're supposed to think and ponder about it, rather than conceptualise and dogmaticize it.

If any of us knew the true nature of karma we wouldn't need to be human anymore...... but we can know through inference that karma exists, just not the specifics. At least I think we can.

the externalization is to an omnipresent law of karma, separate from self, (to replace some illusory god?)
complexed with
the externalization of other lifetimes, separate from this one,
added to
the separation of cause from effect in one's lifespan. (to assuage fear of death? or explain misfortures or great fortunes)
and multiplexed with
the separation of karma to explain mysteries as opposed to understanding the gordian knot that it forms with pain or pleasure dependent upon the intentions of any mind moment.

Karma as an eastern thing, has been simplified from a hindu explanation of misfortune and fortunes using buddhist analysis of roots as corresponds to karmic results

so this is all there is to it - negative roots directly yeild pain: hatred, greed or delusion; & positive roots yeild pleasure: compassion, sharing, and wisdom. three roots of each time only.

Karma simplified is real but only of the moment - not outside self or time. it is all here and now. it is simple, and directly knowable by the self without another trick talking you, without deferment of heaven or hell and without fairy stories.

karma is part of a religion. religion is something a don't beleive in.

even this one.

its an abstract that has no roots in creation, not mine.

i don't need any religion telling me waht to think.

i can do it on my own.

just beleive and you shall receive

schwammel; I could stare at that slinky for a long time - yummy!

but I must say, awareness of karma as relates to its 3 roots in mental contents is a fine meditation, one that can be practiced simply even while driving.

the only things baggage like with karma are the matters of denial, or of superstition. these can be carried farther than too many moments.

Ok... Im not saying religion or God or anything is wrong, bad, or stupid... nor great, amazing, and good. Im not judging that.

lets look at some similarities.

One group called the christians believe that there are rules and codes to be followed for one to be in accordance with Good, and anything that goes against those set of rules is evil or bad or wrong. For that, their God will punish you accordingly... well atleast that is what they tell you.

Then we have the pseudo-hindu, hippy, new wave group which believe that there are rules and codes to be followed for one to remain Good, and if those boundaries are breached one has been Bad, and karma will punish you accordingly.... well, thats what they tell you.

greek gods, roman gods.... potato, potato

the thing is to get up off the ignorant 4 foot stance and walk 2 footed like a man with your head up at a "meta level" but not in the clouds either.

to do that sustainably, the meta level has to be very simple.

many philosophers forget the elegant posture and get bogged down in "heavy important matters".

but karma is a real and valuable thing to think about separate from religion, and it is dead simple, and very liberating when you get the stance.
