Culture Syringe to Peroxidated Substrate?
    #5058142 -

Can a culture syringe be used to inoculate a non-pressure-cooked substrate, such as sawdust/wood pellets treated with the peroxide technique? So far my clones from my oyster mushroom stem butts (on cardboard in petri dishes) are going good, without any need for peroxide, but I know this won't really hold up with species outside of that genus. If not, I could always order some spawn and create cultures from that that would be more peroxide-tolerant, but Sporeworks new special is awfully tempting. Thanks again.

Don't skip the medium spawns before thinking bulk substrats.
You'll have better chances to get good results.
Do like the method says to do.
From my part I only use peroxide in the agar. I don't like the rest of that method.
Good luck and have fun.

Yes, I wasn't thinking about skipping spawn. I just meant a way to take a purchased culture syringe and make spawn with it on materials that could be prepared by a method other than a pressure cooker, which I don't have nor have money for. I know using peroxide in a syringe doesn't make sense since the mycelium isn't in a solid state like agar and the peroxidases would be released throughout the whole thing, killing off the peroxide rather quickly. I was simply wondering if a regular culture syringe would have chance of survival in a jar of peroxidated sawdust or the like.

Thanks.

I don't know, I've never used serynge culture, but I don't think so.
I would try that for fun:
On a peroxide treated grey cardboard in a petri dish, drip a few drops of your serynge cuture on it. Try it on a few plates. You can try some plates sandwiching the drops btw 2 treated grey cardboards.
If it works (I'm far to be sure), then you can use the mycelia for the next transfer.
Good luck.

Yep, I was kinda thinking about doing that. Just (mindfully) experimenting.
