Hi! Can I culture this ganoderma?

Here is a ganoderma tsugae.........a cousin of reishi, also medicinal.
My problem is that it is rather dry, like wood......unlike the younger fruitbodies.....it is firm about as pliable as rubber. I assume I need to rehydrate it somehow. Is there any chance that soaking the bracket might allow me to get a viable culture? It would be a nice addition to my collection....



also......does anyone know any techniques for using these mushrooms? I have heard of alcohol-based extracts, wine concoctions, and dried capsulised flesh......has anyone tried reishi?

does the spore surface look like you might be able to germinate some? You shoud try a section from the spore producing surface - if the 'clone' doesn't take - you can at least hope for spore germination so you could isolate a strain.

I remember an old post on DD where Suntzu revived a culture from dried product

Polypores are full of spores in the tubes inside

I think he broke it open and transfered it to a jar of sterilised water maybe with a touch of sugar and just waited

The spores germinated into a ball like mass which is then teased out onto peroxidated agar and cleaned up

If you have spare shard when you hack it up id sure love a piece - dont have this one only G lucidum and G australe (likes Eucalypt and Acacia).

Good news!
It took to culture very very simply......there turned out to be no need for rehydration. I snapped the fruitbody in half, and took a strand of flesh from the inside and transfered to peroxidated PDA. The next time I looked at the plate, it was colonized! That was about 3-5 days later.

I'm not too sure if the culture camed from spores or flesh, but it came.......so....we'll see what happens. I'll use the same substrate I use with my reishi(oak/soil) and see how it compares.

If anyone is interested......I have been drinking about 10 drops of a homemade extract in my beverages every day. Maybe It's in my head, but I seem to feel better all around. I have been having problems with fatigue, and the past week I've been able to get all my work done without feeling exhausted.....I also feel less burnt out and my marijuana comsumption hasn't changed......
