When I put my cakes in the terrarium do I need to be concerned about sanitary conditions? Can I open the top and look at them? Could I touch the mushrooms if I wanted to?

don't touch the mushrooms! you can open the lid a few times a day to fan or mist but don't touch!

u can pet them if u really need to just dont overdo it

Thanks for the info though, I got the impression people weren't as uptight about sanitary conditions once they started growing.

once the mycilum takes hold and your cake is 100% its harder for the contams to get hold and grow, not saying that it cant happen.  but once you have a couple flushes go by and the mycilum starts to weaken then contams can come in.  i threw out my first set of cakes becuase they started to turn blueish were i was touching them.. to later find out it was just bruising.. :frown:  if you see some discoloration your not sure about, get a q-tip and wipe the area.. if it comes off clean its more than likely not contams..
