Terrarium Humidity
    #470962 - 11/27/01 08:42 AM (23 years, 2 months ago)

Hello All,

I wanted to set up my terrarium in advance, to assure that all of the "bugs" are worked out by the time I need it. Well, I found a bug. :)

In a sterilite container, I have about 1 1/2 inches of perlite and about 3/4 inch of water, and a fish tank bubbler pumping fresh air into the terrarium around the level of the perlite.

The peculiar cicumstance is a startling lack of humidity. I was under the impression that the sides of the terrarium should be "sweating." Can anyone think of why my terrarium isn't fogging up? The top is not airtight by any standard, but it's fairly well sealed - is this my problem? Is the fish tank bubbler making the terrarium lose humidity? Not enough perlite and/or water?

Thanks in advance for your expert advice.

in my experience just about any layer of perlire works as long as its covering the bottom. if its not a see through container it might not sweat as much. i dont use bubblers or pumps, i just fan twice a day. that setup sounds fine though.

You're good to go. You can't judge humidity by condensation.
