I would say that enlightenment can take different forms. I think Christ consciousness and buddhahood are two different forms of enlightenment.

ive wondered about this because during my experience of christ consciousness i specifically associated it with jesus and not buddha or lau tzu or anyone else i admire although i attributed this to culteral conditioning. could you go into more detail about how you think these different forms of enlightenment differ from eachother?

I think the differences are not ones that I could describe in words. The end result is the same, but the approach is different.

Hmm, this is interesting. I would personally say there is no significant difference between christ-consciousness, buddhahood, and enlightenment. To me these are cultural lenses for interpreting the same experiance.

But you see these as different. Have you actually had different experiances that you could classify as either one or the other, and not both? Or does your experiance of christ-consciousness just not relate to what you've always thought enlightenment/buddhahood would be like?

I suppose they are all different paths taken to the same place... But what defines a path but it's origin and destination?

I've had experiences on mushrooms which seem to lend themselves more towards the "buddhahood" lens, whereas my experiences with acid have lent themselves towards Christ consciousness. Due to the inability of language to adequately describe the transcendent experience, I cannot articulate the difference, but there was definitely an experiencial difference between the two.

I am kind of confused, are you a christian, or do you just follow the teachings of christ?

Does that question make sense?

no, that question does not make sense art. one of the definitions of christian is a follower of the teachings of jesus christ, regardless of what modern christianity has to say about them. so technically anyone who follows christ is a christian. i think whoever posted that question was referring to the difference between people who follow the modern church's version of christianity and people follow their own interpretation of jesus's teachings or seek a more personal inner understanding.

Yeah that is what I am asking, I guesse I am also asking you and everyone else that has been posting. Do you follow the modern church, or your own interpretation of Jesus.

art, i follow my own interpretation as well the site i posted (http://www.askrealjesus.com/). you might want to check out the section on healing psychological problems since you said you were depressed if i remember correctly. it says the way to resolve psycholigical problems is to transcend the state of consciousness that caused the problem.

right, only with the christ consciousness will you truly understand in what way we are all one and truly be able to act on it.

Christ was just another human being, with the same biological properties as any of us and a philosophy that was considered to be somewhat profound during his lifetime. Perhaps you are saying "christ consciousness" in a metaphorical sense alluding to enlightenment. If so, couldn't I just as easily label a state of mind that I view to be enlightened with the name of another figure I admire? Jack Nicholson consciousness perhaps. The same type of experiences are labeled as "buddhahood" in eastern culture, which is not to say that this is anymore valid. I think people are quick to label moments of profound realization as Christian in nature because of cultural conditioning, rather than any real relevance between the two.

I looked at the website but I did not look at that part, I will check it out.
Do you believe that Jesus is the messiah, a prophet, or just a spiritual leader? Sorry about all of the questions, I don't know anyone who follows their own interpretations of Jesus.
Do you have to believe Jesus is the messiah to be able to use that technique to help with depression?

What other interpretation would they use? It's not like there's an objective way to read the scriptures. Even fundamentalists have strong disagreements amongst themselves.

you don't need to be sorry, i will answer as many questions as you wish to ask.

i guess i believe jesus was all three but i don't really get too concerned over such classifications (i am not even exactly sure what messiah means). above all i believe jesus was a spiritual teacher and that is really all i would say anyone need believe about him. i am simply concerned with raising my consciousness into christhood. if you want a more in depth explanation read this page:http://www.askrealjesus.com/K_JESUS_ANSWERS/J_BIBLE_INTERPR/messiahtocome.html.

i'm not quite sure how to answer your question about whether you need to believe jesus was the messiah to use the techniques to help with depression. i personally never even considered the question until now because as i said i am simply concerned with reaching a higher level of consciousnes and as such all i really need to believe was that jesus had reached a higher level of conciousness and that i have the potential to aslo. even an athiest could use ideas from that website to help with depression because an idea is an idea regardless of where it comes.

my advice to you would be to use your own inner discernment to decide for yourself what to believe. if you read what the site has to say about psycholigical problems and you feel it is helpful to you then by all means listen to it, but if you don't connect with it in any way then this may not be the right teaching for you. i am simply suggesting it to you because i have found the site of tremendous use in helping me understand and resolve my own psychological issues and rising above the limited sense of identity that caused them.

I guess what I am trying to ask is, do you follow other prophets too? Do you believe that Muhammad is just as important as Jesus? Do you believe that Jesus death saved humans of their sins?

I will look more into the website. I usually get turned off by Christianity because I find people trying to force me to believe it and tell me that my beliefs are wrong; however I am very interested in this. I am constantly trying to open my mind to new things, and this might be a form of Christianity that I like.

I thought that people had there own interpretations of the bible.

Should this be in a different thread? I feel like I tend to get off topic like in the depression thread.

I believe other prophets had their own spiritual truths to teach, and I try to incorporate those teachings into my worldview. I think that certain prophets' teachings may be more helpful for some people than for others, and thus they may be more central for that person's worldview than they are for others. Christ is the center of my faith, but he is not the whole of it. Personally, I don't think I could have come to my current understanding of Christ without first becoming familiar with Buddhist cosmology.

Do you believe in hell? If you do, then do you believe that someone would get sent there for not believing in Jesus?

So you believe that different prophets/teachers are more important to certain people, and that everyone needs to find a teaching that works for them?

I believe hell is a state of consciousness in which one separates themselves completely from God's universal love. It is not a place created by God for sinners, but rather a place we create for ourselves. By the same token, I believe it is possible to escape from it by waking up to this divine love. I do not think that one has to believe in Jesus as Christ in order to escape from hell, but they must experience and attempt to practice the same love for others which He had for humankind.

yes, i follow other prophets as well. buddha, lau tzu, and ramana maharshi (he is my favorite) have all had major influences on me. in fact originally i too was turned off by christianity and completely ignored jesus. it wasn't until my experience of christ consciousnes that i recognized jesus as a true spiritual teacher. then i read the gospels myself for the first time and discovered jesus had just as profound a message to convey as buddha and the rest. i became more interested in jesus's teachings because i found that studying them helped answer many questions i had about buddhism because jesus approached things from a different angle with a different emphasis. i also really liked how jesus's teachings centered around the glory of God as opposed to buddha's which seemed to me more based around undesirability of samsara.

ramana maharshi said " Under whatever name and form one may worship the Absolute Reality, it is only a means for realizing It without name and form. That alone is true realization, wherein one knows oneself in relation to that Reality, attains peace and realizes one's identity with it. "

so while i believe the truth is above that which can be contained in any doctrine or beleif system i found it to be true what maharshi says about God. that being that believing in God and cultivating a great love and affection for form/devotion to him is one of the quickest ways to enlightenment. and it is true that when you love God it is so much easier to surrender to him. and surrending to reality/the greater forces of nature/etc is something you must do no matter what you believe in or what you call them. so anyway that is why i chose jesus and i chose God and my main path to enlightenment even though i see the same truth in buddha's teaching or lau tzus beautiful teaching about the Tao. even though i know the tao is not different from God or my true self, it just a little bit easier to love when its called God. but back to jesus-- for a while i felt lukewarm about jesus because his teachings seemed incomplete. i mean i certainly felt the modern church had forgotten and perverted his real teachings (the path to personal christ consciousness has been almost entirely removed for instance). then i stumbed upon the site i showed you and i found it explained everything i had been wondering about jesus and more, it filled in all the gaps for me and provided powerful spiritual techniques for raising consciousness.

this is exactly what i believe about hell and it is the same teaching the site gives http://www.askrealjesus.com/K_JESUS_ANSWERS/C_SPIRITUAL_REALM/truthheavenandhell.html

i also feel that had i not begun with buddhism i would not understand christ in the same way, amazing how similar our paths have been isn't it?
