Yes, having discussions which introduce new thought as an inevitable result of focused idea exchange which will produce change in all involved in both their experience of life and their understanding of reality as their mind is stimulated is as meaningless as debate over which football team is better.

It is one thing to have an incredible, inexplainable experience of life once while influenced by mushrooms. It is an entirely different one to use that experience as a guide towards developing oneself so that they are able to experience reality in a more and more heightened and aware sense and to exist in a profound state of being.

I've had a great variety of experience. It is the thought processes of my mind that direct that experience. Developing one's ability to think is in no way seperate from spirituality and is itself the source of meaning - thereby making it far from meaningless, eh?
