Yes, but you'll probably get contams, because boiling the dark rye won't get 100% of the mould & baceria out like pressure cooking will. Make your own BRF if necessary by grinding it up, or by buying it online and having it delivered.

i've used dark rye flour (never used BRF) in every jar i've made and have only lost 2 jars out of about 48 to contams, (green trich mold, and that was just because my dry top layer had gotten shifted and allowed contams to come through the holes and infest the substrate without a dry layer present) they've gone through 4 flushes, no problems at all..and I boil every jar just like it states in the pf tek.
